Ethnophamacological Relevance: Ganoderma lucidum has been used as a medicinal mushroom for more than 2000 years in China. Ganoderic acid D (GAD) as a representative active triterpenoid from Ganoderma lucidum is known to possess anticancer activity. However, the mechanism involved in its anticancer cell process is still largely elusive.

Aerosol plays an important role in a broad range of scientific disciplines, such as atmospheric chemistry and physics, fuel combustion, and human health. Current particle sizing instruments are usually bulky, complicated, and expensive, while the portable ones cannot provide sufficient measurement channels to describe the particle size distribution accurately. To address this challenge, we propose an optical sensing method to analyze the particle size distribution of aerosols based on the light scattering intensity field (LSIF).

Road dust from coal utilization is a significant source contributing to the generation of pollutants that can affect the health of people residing within close proximity to roadways. In this study, road dust samples were collected from different directions centered around a coal-fired power plant in Huainan. Black carbon (BC), soot, char, organic carbon (OC) and total carbon (TC), as well as the δC of samples, were determined.

Understanding the biomolecular interactions in a specific organelle has been a long-standing challenge because it requires super-resolution imaging to resolve the spatial locations and dynamic interactions of multiple biomacromolecules. Two key difficulties are the scarcity of suitable probes for super-resolution nanoscopy and the complications that arise from the use of multiple probes. Herein, we report a quinolinium derivative probe that is selectively enriched in mitochondria and switches on in three different fluorescence modes in response to hydrogen peroxide (H O ), proteins, and nucleic acids, enabling the visualization of mitochondrial nucleoprotein dynamics.

Saxitoxin (STX) as one of the most harmful and typical paralytic shellfish toxins, is posing a serious threat to environmental and human health, thus it is essential to develop a sensitive and reliable analytical method for STX detection. Herein, we proposed a strategy for rapid and sensitive detection of STX with surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), by employing cysteine modified gold nanoparticles (Cys-AuNPs) as SERS probe to capture STX molecules through electrostatic interactions and multiple hydrogen bonds between Cys and STX molecules. Moreover, the XPS and zeta potential results indicated that Cys could bond to AuNPs through Au-S bonds and the addition of STX could induce the efficient aggregation of Cys-AuNPs owing to the presence of electrostatic interactions and multiple hydrogen bonds between Cys and STX molecules.

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are a kind of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) with stable chemical properties which can be enriched in a biological body for a long time. They are often carelessly released into natural environment and thus constantly posing a potential threat to human health. However, because of lack of effective ways of degrading PCBs, researchers are still striving to explore new approaches to remove them from the environment.

A novel surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) analysis strategy has been designed combining Au@DTNB@Ag core-shell nanoparticles (DTNB attachment on gold nanoparticles, then encapsulated in Ag shell nanoparticles named as ADANPs) and duplex-specific nuclease signal amplification (DSNSA) platform. Firstly, ADANPs and magnetic substrate of FeO nanoparticles were covalently attached to the 3'- and 5'- end of capture probe (CP) targeting miRNA-21. Upon the addition of target miRNA-21, these heteroduplexes were specifically cleaved by DSN and resulted in ADANPs that were released from the surface of FeO nanoparticles (FeO NPs).

Helical carbon fibers (HCFs) are a new kind of fascinating carbon material, and have caused much attention for their distinctive features, diversified novel properties, and applications. However, the application of HCFs still faces a series of barriers, especially in the repetitive preparation of HCFs. In this paper, we initially report the synthesis of the HCFs with ultrahigh specific surface area (3089 m g) by a bio-template process using the high purified spiral vessels (SVs) as the template.

Lead ions (Pb), one form of the toxic heavy metal, have drawn significant attention due to their harmful effects on human health and the environment. Although many analytical techniques have been developed over the past few decades, the development of a sensitive, selective, and rapid method to detect Pb remains a challenge. In this work, we developed a sensitive surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) biosensor for highly sensitive detection of Pb by using DNAzyme-modified FeO@Au@Ag nanoparticles (FeO@Au@Ag NPs).

Understanding lysosome-related physiology needs specific lysosome probes to track the biological processes of lysosome in living cells. Here, we report an azacyclo-modified fluorescent probe that has a large Stokes shift, good photostability and negligible cytotoxicity for highly specific labeling of lysosome and autolysosome in living cells. The probes with different kinds of azacyclo groups on parent dye dansyl are screened to show that dansyl-cycleanine (DNS-C) with four nitrogen atoms possesses the best lysosome-localized ability.

Until now, existing methods for identifying lncRNA related miRNA sponge modules mainly rely on lncRNA related miRNA sponge interaction networks, which may not provide a full picture of miRNA sponging activities in biological conditions. Hence there is a strong need of new computational methods to identify lncRNA related miRNA sponge modules. In this work, we propose a framework, LMSM, to identify LncRNA related MiRNA Sponge Modules from heterogeneous data.

Achieving highly sensitive and selective detection of trace-level As(III) and clarifying the underlying mechanism is still a intractable problem. The electroanalysis of As(III) relies on the electrocatalytic ability of the sensing interface. Herein, we first adopt single-atom catalysts as the electrocatalyst in As(III) detection.

Instrument-free, portable and direct read-out mini-devices have wider application prospects in various fields, especially for real-time/on-site detection in environmental science. Herein, a colorimetric fluorescent sensor for detecting cadmium ions (Cd) based on aggregation-induced emission (AIE) was established, fluorescent paper strips integrated with smartphone platform was further designed for the visualization, on-site and quantitative detection of Cd. The colorimetric fluorescent sensor was prepared by mixing orange emission glutathione-stabilized gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) with blue emission ethylenediamine functionalized graphene oxide (EDA-GO), and introducing copper ions (Cu) to quench the orange emission of AuNCs while the blue emission served as a background reference without color change.

Instrument-free, portable, and direct read-out mini-devices have wider application prospects in various fields, especially for real-time/on-site sensing. Herein, combined with a paper strip, a smartphone sensing platform integrated with a UV lamp and dark cavity by 3D-printing technology has been developed for the rapid, sensitive, instrument-free, and visual quantitative analysis in real-time/on-site conditions. The platform proved the feasibility for visual quantitative detection of pesticide via a fluorescence "on-off-on" response with a single dual-emissive ratiometric paper strip.

Micro-Cantilever (MCL) is a thin film structure that is applied for aerosol particle mass sensing. Several modifications to the rectangular MCL (length-to-width ratio, slots at the anchor, serrations at its side edges) are made to deduce the role and influence of the shape of rectangular MCL-based aerosol mass sensors and reduce gas damping. A finite element fluid-structure interaction model was used to investigate the performance of MCL.

Background: Studying multiple microRNAs (miRNAs) synergism in gene regulation could help to understand the regulatory mechanisms of complicated human diseases caused by miRNAs. Several existing methods have been presented to infer miRNA synergism. Most of the current methods assume that miRNAs with shared targets at the sequence level are working synergistically.
