This work investigates the mechanical properties, microstructures, and water-swelling behavior of a novel hydrogel filled with magnetic particles. The nanoparticles of magnetite (FeO) and the micro-particles of carbonyl iron (CI) were selected and filled into a polyacrylamide (PAAM) hydrogel matrix to create two types of magnetic hydrogels. The isotropy and anisotropy of magnetic hydrogels are also presented in this study.

Previous studies have used the anaerobic threshold (AT) to non-invasively predict muscle fatigue. This study proposes a novel method for the automatic classification of muscle fatigue based on surface electromyography (sEMG). The sEMG data were acquired from 20 participants during an incremental test on a cycle ergometer using sEMG sensors placed on the vastus rectus femoris (RF), vastus lateralis (VL), vastus medialis (VM), and gastrocnemius (GA) muscles of the left leg.

Paclitaxel and anthracycline-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy is widely used for the treatment of breast cancer, but its sensitivity remains difficult to predict for clinical use. Oxidative degradation and transformation of catalysts are commonly observed in water oxidation by molecular catalysts, especially when a highly oxidizing reagent such as (NH)[Ce(NO)] [Ce(IV)] is used. We report herein the synthesis of a ruthenium(III) complex bearing an oxidative resistant bipyridine-bis(alkoxide) ligand, [Ru(bdalk)(pic)] (1, Hbdalk = 2,2'-([2,2'-bipyridine]-6,6'-diyl)bis(propan-2-ol), pic = 4-picoline) as a water oxidation catalyst (WOC). A ruthenium(II) nitrosyl complex [Ru(Hbdalk)(NO)(pic)] (3) was also formed during the water oxidation process by 1/Ce(IV), and was isolated and structurally characterized.

Surface electromyography (sEMG) has great potential in investigating the neuromuscular mechanism for knee pathology. However, due to the complex nature of neural control in lower limb motions and the divergences in subjects' health and habits, it is difficult to directly use the raw sEMG signals to establish a robust sEMG analysis system. Astaxanthin (AST) is a xanthophyll carotenoid widely distributed in aquatic animals, which has many physiological functions such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-hypertensive and anti-diabetic activities.
