Objectives: The aim of this study was to depict a comprehensive description of near miss research and clarify research gaps.

Background: Learning from near miss can provide early warnings and is critical for proactive and prospective risk management. Because of the lack of structured reviews, there is little knowledge about how near miss management has been managed in the past.
