We describe a new method for the asymmetric synthesis of [(18)F]fluorinated aromatic alpha-amino acids (FAA) under phase transfer conditions using achiral glycine derivative NiPBPGly and (S)-NOBIN as a novel substrate/catalyst pair. The key alkylation step proceeds under mild conditions. Substituted [(18)F]fluorobenzylbromides were prepared using nucleophilic [(18)F]fluoride and were used as alkylation agents.

The role of glutamate receptors in the brain spiking activity was evaluated. The electroencephalographic (EEG) spiking activity was monitored and autoreactive antibodies (aAbs) to subunits of glutamate receptors were assessed in the blood serum of epileptic and ischemic stroke patients. We showed that the level of GluR autoantibodies in blood serum of patients correlates to the intensity of the brain paroxysmal activity.

The EEG and infraslow phasic electrical processes in the band of 0.05-0.5 Hz (ISPP) were simultaneously recorded in 16 derivations (10-20 System without Fz, Cz, and Pz) in 35 women volunteers in the state of quiet wakefulness with closed eyes.

The presence and the level of autoantibodies were assessed using immunoblot and ELISA with synthetic peptides specific for subregions of AMPA glutamate receptor subunits. Patients with refractory epilepsy exhibited strong immunoreactivity to GluR1 subunit compared to healthy donors and patients with Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.

The results of many years of investigations of the features of the functional state and physiological activity of some structures of the striopallidum (Cd, GP, Put) and thalamus (VP, VL, CM) as links in the brain systems of the organization of mental and motor activity in patients with various forms of parkinsonism are presented in generalized form. The possibilities for the use of various types of ultraslow physiological processes to study the brain mechanisms of the activational and emotional states, with more precise definition of the role of structures of the striopallidal complex in the formation of systems supporting these types of mental activity in parkinsonism, are reviewed.
