To improve the selenium (Se) uptake in grapes, the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on the Se accumulation in grapevines were studied under a soil Se concentration of 5 mg/kg, and the transcriptome and metabolome sequencing were used to elucidate the regulatory mechanism of AMF on Se accumulation. AMF initially decreased the biomass of grapevines, but later increased the biomass. Moreover, AMF enhanced the activities of Se metabolism enzymes (adenosine triphosphate sulfurylase, adenosine 5'-phosphosulfate reductase, serine acetyltransferase, and cysteine methyltransferase) and the Se concentration in grapevines.

The impact of cultivar and production system was studied over two years on organoleptic and nutritional characteristics of apple fruits and then, on purees processed with both conventional convection cooking under vacuum and fast innovative microwave cooking. The main factors affecting the content and composition of sugars, organic acids, volatiles, polyphenols, and fibre were in the decreasing order, cultivar, year, and production system. Regarding processing, the fast innovative microwave cooking led to puree with a higher viscosity but with a lower polyphenol content compared to the convection cooking.

Accurate phylogenetic tree construction for species without reference genomes often relies on de novo transcriptome assembly to identify single-copy orthologous genes. However, challenges such as whole-genome duplication (WGD), heterozygosity, gene duplication, and loss can hinder the selection of these genes, leading to limited data for constructing reliable species trees. To address these issues, we developed a new analytical pipeline, OHDLF (Orthologous Haploid Duplication and Loss Filter), which filters orthologous genes from transcript data and adapts parameter settings based on genomic characteristics for further phylogenetic tree construction.
