Individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) have difficulty with regulating their emotions and show reduced functioning of inhibitory control. It was reported previously that OCD patients had delayed antisaccade response and increased error rate only when affective pictures with negative valence served as fixation stimuli in "the antisaccade emotional fixation task". Complementary to the previous research, eye movements and late positive potential (LPP) for fixation stimuli and the presaccadic positivity (PSP) and spike potential (SP) before saccade onset, were compared in two groups of OCD and healthy volunteers.

Establishing well-defined relationships between sleep features and memory consolidation is essential in comprehending the pathophysiology of cognitive decline commonly seen in patients with insomnia, depression, and other sleep-disrupting conditions. Objectives: Pupil dilation is controlled both by sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system branches. We hypothesized that the dynamic of pupil size changes under cognitive load with additional false feedback can predict individual behavior along with heart rate variability (HRV) patterns and eye movements reflecting specific adaptability to cognitive stress. Purpose: The shifts in the opposite directions, toward later and earlier sleep timing, occur during the transition through adolescence and adulthood, respectively. Such a n-shape of age-associated change in sleep timing does not resemble the inverse relationship of sleep duration with ages. Age-associated variation in the parameters of the mechanisms of circadian and homeostatic regulation of sleep would underlie these different shapes of relationship of sleep times with ages.

Although objectively measured characteristics of sleep efficiency and quality were found to be better in women than men, women more frequently than men suffer from poor or insufficient or non-restorative sleep. We explored this apparent paradox by testing the sex-associated differences in electroencephalographic (EEG) indicators of two opponent processes of sleep-wake regulation, the drives for sleep and wake. We tried to provide empirical support for the hypothesis that a stronger women's sleep drive can explain better objective characteristics of sleep quality in women than men, while a stronger women's wake drive can be an explanation of a higher frequency of sleep-related complaints in women than men.
