Primary central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma of the meninges is a rare tumor that originates in the meninges and does not show parenchymal or systemic spread. CNS involvement by natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphoma accounts for only 2% of all extranodal NK/T-cell lymphomas, and primary NK/T-cell lymphoma of the meninges is even rarer. The present study reports a case of a 55-year-old male patient with primary NK/T-cell lymphoma.

Background: Solute carrier family 7 member 2 (SLC7A2), a cationic amino acid transporter, is lowly expressed in ovarian and hepatocellular cancers, which is associated with their worse prognosis. However, its roles in the prognosis, drug resistance and immune infiltration in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are unclear.
Methods: We chose SLC7A2 from RNA-Seq of paclitaxel/cisplatin-resistant A549 cells, then bioinformatics, cell lines construction, RT-qPCR, and CCK8 were performed to investigate SLC7A2 role.

Abnormal metabolism is a major hallmark of cancer and has been validated as a therapeutic target. Adenine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK), an αβγ heterotrimer, performs essential functions in cancer progression due to its central role in maintaining the homeostasis of cellular energy. While the contributions of AMPKα and AMPKγ subunits to cancer development have been established, specific roles of AMPKβ1 and AMPKβ2 isoforms in cancer development are poorly understood.

Since aspirin and clopidogrel are the widely and conventionally used drugs to treat acute myocardial infarction after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), it is important to explore potential risk factors of their resistance. The platelet aggregation rate with arachidonic acid (AA, PAg-AA%) and adenosine diphosphate (ADP, PAg-ADP%) of 219 PCI patients were measured after standard treatment for 24 h. The disease history and laboratory data (before PCI) were obtained.

Triple‑negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most common type of cancer among females worldwide and is associated with poor prognosis. Poly ADP‑ribose polymerase‑1 (PARP1) inhibitors are effective against TNBC with mutations in the breast cancer type 1 susceptibility protein (BRCA1) and/or BRCA2 genes; however, the development of resistance to PARP1 inhibitors limits their use. Thus, identifying strategies to overcome this resistance is urgently required.

We have previously shown that adenine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) regulates transforming growth factor β (TGF-β)-triggered Smad3 phosphorylation. Here we report that AMPK inhibits TGF-β1 production. First, metformin reduced mRNA levels of TGF-β1 in gastric cancer cells, in parallel to the decrease of its protein abundance.

Paclitaxel is a potent antineoplastic agent, but poor solubility and resistance have limited its use. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are widely studied as drug carriers because they can be engineered to prevent drug insolubility, carry nucleic acid payloads for gene therapy, target specific tumor cell lines, modulate drug release and amplify photothermal therapy. Consequently, the conjugation of paclitaxel with AuNPs to improve antiproliferative and pro‑apoptotic potency may enable improved clinical outcomes.

AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is an intracellular sensor of energy homoeostasis that is activated under energy stress and suppressed in energy surplus. AMPK activation leads to inhibition of anabolic processes that consume ATP. Osteogenic differentiation is a process that highly demands ATP during which AMPK is inhibited.

Chemoresistance, which leads to the failure of chemotherapy and further tumor recurrence, presents the largest hurdle for the success of anti-cancer therapy. In recent years, metformin, a widely used first-line antidiabetic drug, has attracted increasing attention for its anti-cancer effects. A growing body of evidence indicates that metformin can sensitize tumor responses to different chemotherapeutic drugs, such as hormone modulating drugs, anti-metabolite drugs, antibiotics, and DNA-damaging drugs via selective targeting of Cancer Stem Cells (CSCs), improving the hypoxic microenvironment, and by suppressing tumor metastasis and inflammation.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Chemotherapy is an alternative treatment for advanced HCCs, but chemo-resistance prevents cancer therapies from achieving stable and complete responses. Understanding the underlying mechanisms in chemo-resistance is critical to improve the efficacy of HCC.

Adenine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a fuel sensing enzyme that is activated in shortage of energy and inhibited in its surplus. Cancer is a metabolic disease characteristic of aerobic glycolysis, namely Warburg effect, and possesses heterogeneity featured by spatiotemporal hypoxia and normoxia, where AMPK is deeply implicated. The present study delineates the regulation of mitochondrial functions by AMPK in cancer cells.

The risk of thrombosis in patients with mechanical heart valve prostheses in spite of life-long adequate anticoagulation is 1-2% per year. Current recommendations for anticoagulation take into account the prosthesis itself and the co-morbid conditions that enhance the thrombotic risk. Lupus anticoagulant is diagnosed in many thrombotic recurrences.

Background: Precise chimerism monitoring is important for the prediction of the success of allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT). Most of the current procedures employed for chimerism follow-up with short tandem repeat (STR) markers are either time-consuming, labor-intensive, or use expensive assays, making it burdensome to perform large-scale studies of transplanted patients.
Aim: To set-up a simple nonradioactive method to investigate a set of STR markers that could be used in the evaluation of chimerism status after allogeneic BMT.
