Fibrotic disorders encompass a broad range of complications and could be traced to various illnesses and impairments; these could range from simple skin scars with beauty issues to severe rheumatologic or inflammatory disorders such as systemic sclerosis as well as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Background: Six thoracic pathologists reviewed 259 lung neuroendocrine tumours (LNETs) from the lungNENomics project, with 171 of them having associated survival data. This cohort presents a unique opportunity to assess the strengths and limitations of current World Health Organization (WHO) classification criteria and to evaluate the utility of emerging markers.
Patients And Methods: Patients were diagnosed based on the 2021 WHO criteria, with atypical carcinoids (ACs) defined by the presence of focal necrosis and/or 2-10 mitoses per 2 mm.
Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) ultimately leads to right ventricular failure and premature death. The identification of circulating biomarkers with prognostic utility is considered a priority. As chronic inflammation is recognized as key pathogenic driver, we sought to identify inflammation-related circulating proteins that add incremental value to current risk stratification models for long-term survival in patients with PAH.

Background: T cells drive acute cellular rejection (ACR) and its progression to chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) following lung transplantation. International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation grade A1 ACR without associated allograft dysfunction is often untreated, yet some patients develop progressive graft dysfunction. T-cell composition of A1 ACR lesions may have prognostic value; therefore, protein-level and epigenetic techniques were applied to transbronchial biopsy tissue to determine whether differential T-cell infiltration in recipients experiencing a first episode of stable grade A1 ACR (StA1R) is associated with early CLAD.

Objective: To evaluate the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) related outcomes during hospitalization during the intensive care unit (ICU) in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) patients with high body mass index (BMI, > 25 kg/m) undergoing lung transplantation with ECMO support.
Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted. IPF patients who received ECMO during lung transplantation admitted to the Affiliated Wuxi People's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from 2019 to 2020 were enrolled.

Cellular therapies with cardiomyocytes produced from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC-CMs) offer a potential route to cardiac regeneration as a treatment for chronic ischemic heart disease. Here, we report successful long-term engraftment and in vivo maturation of autologous iPSC-CMs in two rhesus macaques with small, subclinical chronic myocardial infarctions, all without immunosuppression. Longitudinal positron emission tomography imaging using the sodium/iodide symporter (NIS) reporter gene revealed stable grafts for over 6 and 12 months, with no teratoma formation.

Heart failure (HF) is a chronic and progressive disease that often progresses to an advanced stage where conventional therapy is insufficient to relieve patients' symptoms. Despite the availability of advanced therapies such as mechanical circulatory support or heart transplantation, the complexity of defining advanced HF, which requires multiple parameters and multimodality assessment, often leads to delays in referral to dedicated specialists with the result of a worsening prognosis. In this review, we aim to explore the role of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) in advanced HF by showing how CMR is useful at every step in managing these patients: from diagnosis to prognostic stratification, hemodynamic evaluation, follow-up and advanced therapies such as heart transplantation.

Primary graft dysfunction (PGD) is a life-threatening clinical condition with a high mortality rate, presenting as left, right, or biventricular dysfunction within the initial 24 h following heart transplantation, in the absence of a discernible secondary cause. Given its intricate nature, definitive definition and diagnosis of PGD continues to pose a challenge. The pathophysiology of PGD encompasses numerous underlying mechanisms, some of which remain to be elucidated, including factors like myocardial damage, the release of proinflammatory mediators, and the occurrence of ischemia-reperfusion injury.
