Purpose: The concept of 'diversity and inclusion' is being adopted worldwide, but it is not yet understood well in Japan. We conducted this study to evaluate the impact of a lecture aimed at increasing awareness of academic careers and the benefits of having diversity and inclusion.

Methods: Two female surgeons delivered a 120-min lecture on "diversity and inclusion" to third-year medical students at Tokushima University.

To date, efficacy data on botulinum toxin type B (rimabotulinumtoxinB) in patients with cervical dystonia (CD) previously treated with botulinum toxin type A in a large population are lacking; thus, we aimed to evaluate type B efficacy in this patient population. In a post-marketing observational cohort study, 150 patients previously treated with botulinum toxin type A were enrolled, of whom 138 were followed up for 1 year after the initial type B injection. Final observation data were available for 122 patients.

Peripherally derived steroids affect steroid production in the brain via the blood-brain barrier. However, steroid concentrations are lower in the cerebrospinal fluid than those in the blood, indicating restricted influx of steroids because of their metabolization by choroid plexus (CP) epithelial cells. Here, we analyzed the gene expression of steroidogenic enzymes [cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme (P450scc), 17α-hydroxylase/C17-C20 lyase (P450c17), 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3β-HSD), 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (17β-HSD1), aromatase (Cyp19a1), and 5α-reductase type 1 (5α-R1)].

Background: Daikenchuto (TU-100), a Japanese herbal medicine, is widely used for various gastrointestinal diseases. We have previously reported that TU-100 suppresses CPT-11-induced bacterial translocation (BT) by maintaining the diversity of the microbiome. We report a very rare case of monochorionic dizygotic twins conceived spontaneously. The fetuses were sex-discordant in ultrasonography despite being monochorionic twins. After birth, the girl and boy showed normal phenotypes but they showed blood chimerism in karyotype and blood group type.
