Background: Very premature infants screened for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) that do not develop ROP still experience serious visual developmental challenges, and while it is recommended that all children in the UK are offered preschool visual screening, we aimed to explore whether this vulnerable group requires dedicated follow-up.

Methods: We performed a real-world retrospective observational cohort study of children previously screened for ROP in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (Scotland) between 2013 and 2015. We excluded those with any severity of ROP identified during screening.

In this study, a simple and easy synthesis strategy to realize the modification of AuHgPt nanoalloy materials on the surface of ITO glass at room temperature is presented. Gold nanoparticles as templates were obtained by electrochemical deposition, mercury was introduced as an intermediate to form an amalgam, and then a galvanic replacement reaction was utilized to successfully prepare gold-mercury-platinum (AuHgPt) nanoalloys. The obtained alloys were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques.

The aim of this study was to compare the mechanical properties of carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites produced using three popular technologies. The tests were performed on composites produced from prepregs in an autoclave, the next variant is composites produced using the infusion method, and the third variant concerns composites produced using the vacuum-assisted hand lay-up method. For each variant, flat plates with dimensions of 1000 mm × 1000 mm were produced while maintaining similar material properties and fabric arrangement configuration.

In the study of structural materials, the analysis of fracture and deformation resistance plays an important role, particularly in materials widely used in the construction industry, such as poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC). PVC is a popular material used, among others, in the manufacture of window profiles, doors, pipes, and many other structural components. Polyurea (PUR) has been widely used as a protective coating in recent years. In order to complete the understanding of the relationship between PUR microstructure and its energy absorption capabilities, the mechanical and dynamic performance of PURs containing various macrodiol structural units were compared using material characterization techniques and molecular dynamic simulation. The results showed that the PUR polycarbonate diols formed as energy absorbing materials showed high tensile strength, high toughness, and excellent loss factor distribution based on the comparison of stress-strain tensile curves, glass transition temperatures, phase images, and dynamic storage loss modulus.

To simulate the collision behavior that occurs when a pedestrian's head collides with PVB laminated glass, a comparison was made between the results of the widely used PLC model for PVB laminated glass modeling and an actual dynamic head impact test. The material properties of the tempered glass and PVB film used in the PLC and equivalent models were obtained via four-point bending tests and tensile tests, respectively.

This study systematically investigated the effect of organic solvent addition on the detection signal intensity of 15 organic pesticides in water using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-ESI-MS/MS). The analysis of chromatographic peak area ratios in ultrapure water (UPW) versus 30% methanol (MeOH)-UPW showed that the adsorption effects (AEs, mainly from injection vials with weaker polarity) were the main factor influencing the detection intensity of the organic pesticides. The AEs varied with pesticide type and concentration, especially for those with high logK values and longer retention times, such as malathion, triadimefon, prometryn, S-metolachlor, diazinon, and profenofos.

First report of causing leaf spot on in China.

During a field study in the Baili Azalea Forest Area in Guizhou Province, China (27°12'N, 105°48'E) between May and July 2023, symptoms of leaf spot were observed on Franch. The incidence of leaf spot on leaves was about 12% in a field of 1 hm2, significantly reducing their ornamental and economic value. The affected leaves bore irregular, grey-white lesions with distinct dark brown borders, accompanied by black conidiomata.

Migration routes and the depth patterns of anguillid eel larvae migrating long distances from spawning grounds in the ocean remain poorly understood. We used otolith stable isotope analysis to study the oceanic migrations of anguillid eels by reconstructing experienced water temperature histories of larvae. The otolith stable oxygen isotopes (δO) of recruited Anguilla japonica glass eels were analyzed to assess the relationship with the experienced water temperature of the early larval stage in laboratory experiments.

The pseudogap phenomena have been a long-standing mystery of the cuprate high-temperature superconductors. The pseudogap in the electron-doped cuprates has been attributed to band folding due to antiferromagnetic (AFM) long-range order or short-range correlation. We performed an angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy study of the electron-doped cuprates PrLaCeCuO showing spin-glass, disordered AFM behaviors, and superconductivity at low temperatures and, by measurements with fine momentum cuts, found that the gap opens on the unfolded Fermi surface rather than the AFM Brillouin zone boundary.

Polar ice cores and historical records evidence a large-magnitude volcanic eruption in 1831 CE. This event was estimated to have injected ~13 Tg of sulfur (S) into the stratosphere which produced various atmospheric optical phenomena and led to Northern Hemisphere climate cooling of ~1 °C. The source of this volcanic event remains enigmatic, though one hypothesis has linked it to a modest phreatomagmatic eruption of Ferdinandea in the Strait of Sicily, which may have emitted additional S through magma-crust interactions with evaporite rocks.
