Antibiotics' resistance profile of pathogens isolated from fish products sold in the city of Bangangté, Cameroon: Aqueous extracts from spices' formulations used as accompanying soup of braised fish as antimicrobial alternative.

The present study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of aqueous extracts of the mixture of spices used as accompanying soup of braised fish against multidrug resistant (MDR) bacteria isolated from raw and braised fish collected in the city of Bangangté, Cameroon. A survey was conducted in the city of Bangangté to diagnose the braising fish processes. Pathogens were isolated from raw and braised fish samples collected in fish farms and selling points, and their susceptibility to 16 commonly used antibiotics was tested using the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method.

Phenolic compounds, antioxidant and antileishmanial activities of kombucha as affected by fermentation time.

Objective: Study the impact of fermentation time on the phytochemical properties, antioxidant and antileishmanial activities.

Materials And Methods: The preparation of Kombucha tea by fermentation was performed under aseptic conditions and symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY) layer was maintained in culture for continuous growth in a water-sugar (4 L-500 g) mixture for 7, 14, 21, 28 and 35 days. The process of preparation was performed using a decoction.

Haemoglobin Gene Repertoire in Teleost and Cichlid Fishes Shaped by Gene Duplications and Genome Rearrangements.

Haemoglobin is a key molecule for oxygen transport in vertebrates. It exhibits remarkable gene diversity in teleost fishes, reflecting adaptation to various aquatic environments. In this study, we present the dynamic evolution of haemoglobin subunit genes based on a comparison of high-quality genome assemblies of 24 vertebrate species, including 17 teleosts (of which six are cichlids).

Growth characteristics, yields, rentability, nutritional, and antinutritional of tubers of each treatment were determined at harvest.

An overview of artemisinin-resistant malaria and associated Pfk13 gene mutations in Central Africa.

Malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum is one of the deadliest and most common tropical infectious diseases. However, the emergence of artemisinin drug resistance associated with the parasite's Pfk13 gene, threatens the public health of individual countries as well as current efforts to reduce malaria burdens globally. It is of concern that artemisinin-resistant parasites may be selected or have already emerged in Africa.

Influence of tides on the dissemination and related health risks of intestinal helminths along the Kribi beaches (Atlantic Coast, Southern Cameroon).

Kribi is a seaside town that welcomes thousands of tourists each year. However, the poor sanitation condition of its beaches along the Atlantic coast is not without risk for visitors. In this study, we used the formol-ether concentration technique to identify and quantify larvae or eggs of intestinal helminths in waters of three regularly visited Kribi beaches (Mpalla, Ngoyè, and Mboamanga).

Unusual reactivity of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) with Fe controlled by competing reactions.

2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) is a stable organic free radical widely used in various fields as a model free radical. There is scarce information about the stability of this compound in the chemical environments in which it is used. Side reactions between DPPH and other species can alter the precision of experiments that use DPPH, such as the evaluation of antioxidant properties amongst others.

Assessing the effectiveness of a DASH diet in hypertensive patients attending the Ngaoundere Regional Hospital - Cameroon: a case-control study.

Hypertension remains a public health issue in Cameroon, though lifestyle and dietetic measures are the main approaches for the prevention and management of hypertension. The present study aimed at evaluating the impact of a Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet using local foodstuffs on the status of hypertensive patients at the Ngaoundere Regional Hospital. A case-control study was carried out with 160 hypertensive patients divided into two groups, a test and a control group.

Functional diversity of the fish fauna in the Nyong estuary (Atlantic Coast, Cameroon), and its correlation with environmental variables.

Archaic fishing, anthropogenic pollution linked to demographic and economic growth stand to be a real threat to the richness and abundance of the aquatic fauna of estuaries in Sub-Saharan Africa. The knowledge of the Nyong estuary ichthyofauna's ecology in Cameroon is particularly essential to establish a management plan and sustainable management of this important ecosystem. The Nyong estuary ichthyofauna was composed of 13 families, 20 genera and 22 species, from February to June 2020.

Four new species of Hysterocinetida (Protozoa: Ciliophora) from the digestive tract of earthworms collected to the lower Nyong estuary (South Coast, Cameroon).

Hysterocinetida are a large assemblage of ciliates characterized by sucker and buccal apparatus. They have a wide distribution in the digestive tract of oligochaete annelids of the genus Alma that inhabit hydromorphic parts of non-anthropic hydrosystems. On the basis of morphological, morphometric and infraciliature characteristics revealed by ammoniacal silver carbonate and 4',6-Diamidino-2-Phenyl Indole (DAPI) staining techniques, four forms were identified as new members belonging to three genera: Preptychostomum, Proptychostomum and Thurstonia.

Determining Factors and Zootechnical Output of Biosecurity Practices in Fish Farms in the Wouri Division, Cameroon.

Biosecurity practice limits the occurrence of diseases and economic losses in fish farms. The objective of this study was to characterize fish farming in the Administrative Division of Wouri, Cameroon (3°97'04″-3°58'13″N; 9°76'78″-9°46'4.3″E) and assess the biosecurity practices.

Epidemiology of the Acceptance of Anti COVID-19 Vaccine in Urban and Rural Settings in Cameroon.

The COVID-19 pandemic rapidly evolved in December 2019 and to prevent its spread, effective vaccines were produced and made available to the population. Despite their availability so far in Cameroon, the vaccination coverage remains low. This study aimed at describing the epidemiology of the acceptance of vaccines against COVID-19 in some urban and rural areas of Cameroon.

In this work, the stability of DPPH was investigated by electrochemistry and UV-Vis spectroscopy in the presence of some metal cations (Cu and Zn) and acids (HClO and HNO) in acetonitrile.

Effects of Malaria and HIV Infection on Anemia and T-cells Levels in Children in Douala City, Cameroon.

Introduction Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and malaria are priority health issues for sub-Saharan Africa. Both diseases worsen each other through their effect on the immune and hematological systems. This study aimed to determine the effects of HIV infection and asymptomatic malaria on anemia and T-cells counts in children in the city of Douala in the republic of Cameroon.

Species-informative SNP markers for characterising freshwater prawns of genus Macrobrachium in Cameroon.

Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) are now popular for a myriad of applications in animal and plant species including, ancestry assignment, conservation genetics, breeding, and traceability of animal products. The objective of this study was to develop a customized cost-effective SNP panel for genetic characterisation of Macrobrachium species in Cameroon. The SNPs identified in a previous characterization study were screened as viable candidates for the reduced panel.

Groundwater is subject to the intrusion of pollutants of various types. These pollutants can have natural or anthropogenic sources. Their consumption can therefore affect human health, but also affects the development of vegetation.

Prevalence and Molecular Characterization of Ascaridoid Parasites of Philippine Species.

There are relatively few studies on parasite fauna of marine fishes in Philippine waters. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of marine ascaridoid infection in species in Balayan Bay and Tayabas Bay. A total of 371 fishes belonging to three different species of ( [ = 130], [ = 121], and [ = 120]) were collected.

Chemical Characterization and Antibacterial Properties of (Günther, 1870) Liver Oil.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the chemical characteristics and antibacterial activity of liver oil against the bacteria responsible for food poisoning.

Methods: Oils were extracted from liver using two methods (exudation and cooking-pressing) and analyses by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy.
