Characterization of the gut microbiome of black-necked cranes (Grus nigricollis) in six wintering areas in China.

The black-necked crane (Grus nigricollis) is a vulnerable species, breeding exclusively on the high-altitude wetlands of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Bird species harbor diverse communities of microorganisms within their gastrointestinal tracts, which have important roles in the health, nutrition, and physiology of birds. Hitherto, virtually nothing was known about the gut microbial communities associated with wild black-necked cranes.

Nearly Complete Genome Sequence of a Newcastle Disease Virus Strain Isolated from a Wild Garganey () in Russia.

This work describes the nearly complete genome sequence of Newcastle disease virus (NDV) strain NDV/Novosibirsk/garganey/27/2014, which was isolated from a wild garganey in western Siberia, Russia. The NDV strain was classified as belonging to class II of genotype I and was identified as having recent common ancestry with isolates from wild and domestic birds in China and South Korea.

Characterization of the microbiome along the gastrointestinal tracts of semi-artificially reared bar-headed geese (Anser indicus).

As one of the dominant waterfowl species of wetland areas in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, since 2003, artificial rearing of bar-headed geese (Anser indicus) has increased in several provinces of China for the purpose of conservation and economic development. In this study, we systematically characterized the microbial community diversity, compositions and predicted functions of semi-artificially reared bar-headed geese by sampling five different gut locations (the oropharynxs, crops, gizzards, ceca, and cloacae) along the gastrointestinal tracts of three individuals. Alpha diversity analyses showed that the gizzards had the richest species diversity and that the ceca had the least.

Introduction: Bariatric surgery, as the only effective treatment of obesity, has strong effects on the metabolism, and nervous and endocrine systems. Thus, based on the different opinions about the efficaciousness of morbid obesity treatments, the aim of the present study was to estimate the association of serum ghrelin and Met-enkephalin (native, five amino acids and cryptic, precursor of enkephalin) concentrations with body mass index (BMI) value in bariatric patients within 30 postoperative days.

Material And Methods: The study was performed on 38 female patients divided into two groups: I - BMI lower than 40 kg/m² (n = 18) and II - BMI higher than 40 kg/m² (n = 20).

Expression of CD11, CD29, CD36, and DC-STAMP molecules by macrophages was analyzed in in vitro experiments. These molecules mediate cell fusion, one of the mechanisms underlying the formation of multinuclear macrophages. Macrophages were obtained from intact and BCG-infected male BALB/c mice.

Objectives: The Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale (RHDS) for postpartum women was developed and validated in the US in 2006. The aim of the research was to analyse the psychometric properties of the Polish version of the Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale (RHDS) for subjective assessment of the bio-psycho-physical status of women after childbirth.

Material And Methods: After the preparation of the Polish-language version of the questionnaire, the study was conducted among 168 postpartum women on the day they were discharged from the hospital.

Analysis of Determinants of Readiness for Professional Development Among Polish Nurses.

The continuous development of medical sciences and the introduction of new diagnostic methods and treatment with the use of specialized equipment means that the knowledge and skills acquired during university studies are no longer sufficient. This obliges nursing staff to raise their professional qualifications in order to provide the appropriate quality of medical services. The aim of the study was an analysis of nurses readiness for learning and development and factors determining this readiness.

Composition, diversity and function of gastrointestinal microbiota in wild red-billed choughs (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax).

Hitherto, virtually nothing is known about the microbial communities related to the bird species in the family Corvidae. To fill this gap, the present study was conducted to provide a baseline description of the gut microbiota of wild red-billed choughs (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax). In this study, microbiota from four gastrointestinal locations (oropharynx, gizzard, small intestine, and large intestine) of three wild red-billed choughs were analyzed using the Illumina MiSeq sequencing platform by targeting the V4-V5 regions of the 16S rRNA genes.

Death Mechanisms of Pulmonary Alveolocytes in Mice Infected with Influenza Viruses A/H1N1/California/04/2009 and A/H5N1/Goose/Krasnoozerskoye/627/05.

In CBA mice infected with influenza viruses A/H1N1/California/04/2009 and A/H5N1/Goose/Krasnoozerskoye/627/05 in a dose of 10 MLD, the mechanisms of death of pulmonary alveolocytes over 10 postinfection days were studied by light microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and morphometry. In mice infected with A/H1N1, alveolocytes died predominantly via necrosis, while apoptosis mostly employed the mitochondrial pathway. In mice infected with A/H5N1, apoptosis was the dominant mechanism of alveolocyte death proceeded via membrane receptor signaling followed by switching to FAS-mediated pathway via activation of FADD, the apoptotic signal transduction protein.

[Effect of a gel based on recombinant human angiogenin on the healing of donor palate wounds].

The aim of the study was to study the effect of the gel on the basis of recombinant human angiogenin on the rate of regeneration of donor palatal wounds. The study involved 20 patients (8 men and 12 women) aged 32 to 55 years. Patients were divided into two groups: the 1 group is a study group (n=10), whose patients in the postoperative period used a gel based on recombinant human angiogenin, the 2 group is a control group (n=10) in which a gel based on recombinant human angiogenin was not used.

Changes in the kidney structure in outbred and inbred male BALB/c mice were analyzed in the acute period after infection with influenza viruses A/H5N1 (10 MLD; 10 days) and A/H1N1 (1 MLD; 30 days). Antibodies to influenza viruses of both strains were most often expressed by endothelial cells of the glomeruli and arterioles and were rarely expressed by mesangiocytes and tubule epithelial cells. In the kidney, destructive processes induced by viruses and by ischemia due to massive blood vessel thrombosis.

Effects Mifepristone on Aminotransferase Activities in the Liver in Rats with Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetes Mellitus.

The glucocorticoid status and activities of ALT, AST, and tyrosine aminotransferase in the liver are studied in rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus in response to repeated intraperitoneal injections of mifepristone. Diabetic rats develop an increase of the blood corticosterone and liver aminotransferase levels in response to mifepristone. These results indicate that in diabetic animals the glucocorticoid hormones with high blood concentrations, increasing still more in response to mifepristone, overcome the receptor blockade, and realize their regulatory functions in hepatocytes.

It was the first study of this kind in the European part of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation (AZRF). The contents of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-1, -2, -3, -9) and tissue inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinases (TIMP-1, -2, -4) were measured in blood plasma of 91 men in AZRF (67o N) and 14 men in Western Siberia.

Correlations between Extracellular Matrix Components in Mouse Lungs during Chronic BCG-Induced Granulomatosis.

Correlations between extracellular matrix components in mouse lungs were examined during various terms of BCG-induced granulomatosis (on postinfection days 3, 30, 60, 90, and 180). During the development of pathological process, the revealed dynamic interrelations between structural units of proteoglycans and hydroxyproline weakened. Most correlations were observed on postinfection day 180.

Study of Antiviral Efficiency of Oxidized Dextrans In Vitro and In Vivo.

Antiviral efficiency of oxidized dextrans (OD) with different molecular weights and oxidation degree (OD40min, OD70min, OD40max, and OD70 max) was studied in vitro and in vivo. Dextrans OD40max and OD70max prevented the development of the cytopathic effect of influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus in more than 50% MDCK cells vs. control (no OD).

Humoral immunity to influenza in an at-risk population and severe influenza cases in Russia in 2016-2017.

This work aimed to analyze the herd immunity to influenza among a Russian population living in regions with an increased risk of emergence of viruses with pandemic potential, and to isolate and investigate virus strains from severe influenza cases, including fatal cases, during the 2016-2017 epidemic season. In November 2016 - March 2017 highly pathogenic influenza outbreaks were registered in Russia among wild birds and poultry. No cases of human infection were registered.
