We investigated the production of highly reactive oxygen species (ROS) in solutions undergoing treatment using CaviPlasma (CP) technology. This technology combines plasma discharge with hydrodynamic cavitation. This study focused on factors such as pH, conductivity, presence of salts and organic matter affecting ROS formation and their stability in solutions.

This review aims to compile sparse information on the ecology of freshwater heterotrophic euglenoids and synthesize the main phenomena and hypotheses from published results. Apparently, heterotrophic euglenoids play a very important role in the nutrient flow of water ecosystems and are irreplaceable heterotrophic contributors in benthic communities, as their total biomass is by far the largest among heterotrophic flagellates. Even though they are obviously a very crucial part of the diversity of freshwater heterotrophic protists, and likely the most represented (in terms of biovolume) group of heterotrophic flagellates, there have been only a few attempts to elucidate their ecological preferences, roles, niches, and importance.

A series of amides of selected plant triterpenoids, moronic acid and morolic acid, with the tripeptides MAG and GAM, was designed and synthesized. Two required tripeptides 5 and 10 were synthesized by a step-wise chain elongation of the ethyl esters of either glycine or l-methionine at their N-terminus using Boc-protected amino acids in each step. The tripeptides 5 and 10 were used for the synthesis of 13-23, the derivatives of moronic acid (11) and morolic acid (12), to get a series of amide derivatives of the less frequently studied triterpenoids 11 and 12.

Here, we present a protocol for labeling and live visualization of RNA-protein complexes in the form of ribonucleoprotein particles (RNPs) in tobacco pollen tubes. We describe steps for constructing RNA-pp7/MS2 tag and biolistic gene-gun-mediated pollen transformation. We then provide detailed procedures for RNA labeling using PP7 aptamer nascent RNA tagging and a fluorescently labeled Pseudomonas aeruginosa PP7 bacteriophage coat protein (PCP) reporter that binds to PP7 RNA stem loops.

Bats are known reservoirs of various emerging pathogens, and have recently been found to host a novel hantavirus, named Brno loanvirus (BRNV), from the Mammantavirinae subfamily (family Hantaviridae, order Bunyavirales). Here we report BRNV detection in bats from the urban area of Brno, Czech Republic in March 2022. Specifically, we uncovered a high prevalence of BRNV (8.

Silver(I) complexes with proline and hydroxyproline were synthesized and structurally characterized and crystal structure analysis shows that the formulas of the compounds are {[Ag(Pro)(NO)]NO} (AgPro) (Pro = L-proline) and {[Ag(Hyp)(NO)]NO} (AgHyp) (Hyp = -4-hydroxy-L-proline). Both complexes crystallize in the monoclinic lattice with space group 2 with a carboxylate bidentate-bridging coordination mode of the organic ligands Pro and Hyp (with NH and COO groups in zwitterionic form). Both complexes have a distorted seesaw (C) geometry around one silver(I) ion with values of 58% (AgPro) and 51% (AgHyp).

In flowering plants, male gametes are immotile and carried by dry pollen grains to the female organ. Dehydrated pollen is thought to withstand abiotic stress when grains are dispersed from the anther to the pistil, after which sperm cells are delivered via pollen tube growth for fertilization and seed set. Yet, the underlying molecular changes accompanying dehydration and the impact on pollen development are poorly understood.

DNA damage response (DDR) is an essential mechanism by which living organisms maintain their genomic stability. In plants, DDR is important also for normal growth and yield. Here, we explored the DDR of a temperate model crop barley (Hordeum vulgare) at the phenotypic, physiological, and transcriptomic levels.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Ferns form an important part of the human diet. Young fern fiddleheads are mostly consumed as vegetables, while the rhizomes are often extracted for starch. These edible ferns are also often employed in traditional medicine, where all parts of the plant are used, mostly to prepare extracts.

Nowadays, when climate change is becoming more and more evident, drought stress plays a very important role, including in agriculture. The increasing number of years with extreme temperatures in the Czech Republic has a negative impact on agricultural production, among other things. Therefore, ways are being sought to reduce these negative impacts.

We describe a user-optimized sample holder EasyClick for medium-sized plants that reduces root side movements and thus greatly extends the duration of live cell confocal microscopy. Preparation and mounting of the samples are key factors for successful live cell microscopy. To acquire biologically relevant data, it is necessary to minimize stress and avoid physical damage to plant tissues during the installation of the sample into the microscope.

Background: The determination of plant hormones is still a very challenging analytical discipline, mainly due to their low concentration in complex plant matrices. Therefore, the involvement of very sensitive high-throughput techniques is required. Cytokinins (CKs) are semi-polar basic plant hormones regulating plant growth and development.

Anthelmintics are drugs used for the treatment and prevention of diseases caused by parasitic worms (helminths). While the importance of anthelmintics in human as well as in veterinary medicine is evident, they represent emerging contaminants of the environment. Human anthelmintics are mainly used in tropical and sub-tropical regions, while veterinary anthelmintics have become frequently-occurring environmental pollutants worldwide due to intensive agri- and aquaculture production.

Moronic acid and morolic acid, less frequently studied plant triterpenoids, were subjected to derivation with several structural modifiers, namely, piperazine-, pyrazine-, 1-indole- and L-methionine-based compounds. Derivation was targeted to design and prepare novel compounds capable of nano-assembling and/or displaying cytotoxicity. Formation of nanostructures has been proven for several novel target compounds that formed different types of nanostructures, either in chloroform or in water.

Bioactivity-guided phytochemical fractionation of the methanol extract of Olax subscorpioidea root has led to the isolation of six triterpenes. Three of these compounds are previously undescribed triterpenoid saponins: oleanolic acid 3-O-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→3)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-6-O-methyl-β-D-glucuronopyranoside]-28-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl ester (2), oleanolic acid 3-O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-β-D-glucopyranoside] (3), and oleanolic acid 3-O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-6-O-methyl-β-D-glucuronopyranoside] ester (5). Other reported known compounds include two triterpene glycosides: oleanolic acid 3-O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-6-O-methyl-β-D-glucuronopyranoside]-28-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl ester (1) and oleanolic acid 3-O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-β-D-glucuronopyranoside] (4); and a triterpene acid, oleanolic acid (6).
