The prevention of memory decline requires better knowledge of biological markers. We studied the associations between kidney function biomarkers and memory decline (assessed with the Mini-Mental State Examination-MMSE) in elderly individuals without dementia (MMSE 24-30, age 60-74 years, = 643, Arkhangelsk, Russia). Participants were divided by sex and into three groups according to the delayed memory performance: recall of 0-1, 2, and 3 out of 3 words.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to elucidate the mechanisms of the formation of lymphopenia and lymphocytosis in healthy people, who are living and working in the Arctic region.
Materials And Methods: A total of 88 practically healthy people living and working in the Arctic region were examined. An analysis of the results was carried out, depending on the concentration of lymphocytes in the peripheral venous blood: group 1-with lymphopenia, the content of lymphocytes below 1.

The study involved 106 elderly people of the Arctic aged 61-74 years, 42 of them were residents of the Subarctic region (SR) and 64 residents of the Arctic region (AR). Using gas-liquid chromatography there was determined the serum content of saturated fatty acids (SFA): short-chain (SCFA), medium-chain (MCFA) and long-chain (LCFA); and the levels of carbohydrate metabolism parameters were determined by spectrophotometric methods. Correlation analysis showed that elderly people of SR had no significant interrelationships between the contents of SCFA, MCFA and LCFA, since all the correlation dependences were weak (r=0,2-0,29, p=0,08-0,786), against AR with a lower occurrence of high values of glucose (Glu), lactate (Lac) and low pyruvate (Pyr).

The serum hormone levels were studied among middle and gerontic aged residents of Arkhangelsk by enzyme immunoassay and radioimmunoassay. The significant increase of follicle-stimulating and luteinizing hormones levels in gerontic aged men was recorded in the presence of higher concentrations of these hormones in women. There was a statistical tendency of decrease in the level of testosterone in gerontic aged women compared to middle aged.

Endemic goitre is a primary pathology of thyroid gland and critical medico social problem in many countries. A dominant cause of endemic goitre is iodine deficiency. However, besides primary iodine deficiency, the goitre may probably develop due to effects of other bioelement imbalances, essential to thyroid function maintenance.
