Exosomes are extracellular vesicles, which have the ability to convey various types of cargo between cells. Lately, a great amount of interest has been paid to exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs), since much evidence has suggested that the sorting of miRNAs into exosomes is not an accidental process. It has been shown that exosomal miRNAs (exo-miRNAs) are implicated in a variety of cellular processes including (but not limited to) cell migration, apoptosis, proliferation, and autophagy.

Aim: Early-stage diagnosis of diabetes through non-invasive and diagnostic biofluid-like saliva has become a very popular approach to facilitate future preventive interventions and improve patient care. Meanwhile, the alteration of small non-coding RNA in human fluids has been suggested as a probable precedent for the early stages of diabetes.
Methods: In the present study, we checked the expression of miR-320a, 182-5p, 503, and 375 by using quantitative PCR in both stimulated and unstimulated saliva and blood samples of 40 adult patients with type-2 diabetes compared to 40 healthy individuals.

Thyroid doses from intake of radioiodine isotopes (131I, 132Te+132I, and 133I) and associated uncertainties were revised for the 13,204 Ukrainian-American cohort members exposed in childhood and adolescence to fallout from the Chornobyl nuclear power plant accident. The main changes related to the revision of the 131I thyroid activity measured in cohort members, the use of thyroid-mass values specific to the Ukrainian population, and the revision of the 131I ground deposition densities in Ukraine. Uncertainties in doses were assessed considering shared and unshared errors in the parameters of the dosimetry model.

Air pollution particulate matter (PM) is a world risk factor that the effects of long-term exposure to these factors in terms of damage to cardiovascular and pulmonary function are well known, but little is known comparatively about the effects of PM on emotional and cognitive processes. Exposure to PM can adversely affect the central nervous system (CNS) by inflammatory pathways and activation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) associated with urban air pollution PM. Therefore, we investigated whether prolonged exposure to diesel exhaust particles (DEPs) affects hippocampal inflammatory cytokines and emotional and cognition responses.

Introduction: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and hypothyroidism often coexist in observational studies; however, the causal relationship between them remains controversial.
Methods: Complementary genetic approaches, including genetic correlation, Mendelian randomization (MR), and colocalization analysis, were conducted to assess the potential causal association between SLE and primary hypothyroidism using summary statistics from large-scale genome-wide association studies. The association between SLE and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) was further analyzed to help interpret the findings.
