Multifunctional Magnetic Nanoagents for Bioimaging and Therapy.

ACS Appl Bio Mater

February 2021

Longgang E.N.T. Hospital and Shenzhen Key Laboratory of E.N.T., Institute of E.N.T., Shenzhen, Guangdong 518116, China.

Multifunctional magnetic nanoagents (MMNs) have drawn increasing attention in cancer precision therapy, attributed to their good biocompatibility and the potential applications for multimodal imaging and multidisciplinary therapy. The noble metal or isotopes contained in MMNs could not only perform superparamagnetism, providing an outstanding magnetic targeting property for drug delivery, but also endow the MMNs with a magnetocaloric effect, photothermal performance, and radiotherapy sensitization, arriving at a multimode combination therapy for cancer. Also, the composite component can endow MMNs with various imaging performance, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), thereby achieving accurate image-guided therapy for cancer.

LncRNA HOXC-AS1 promotes nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) progression by sponging miR-4651 and subsequently upregulating FOXO6.

J Pharmacol Sci

November 2021

Department of Otolaryngology, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-Sen University, No. 107 Yanjiang West Road, Guangzhou, 51000, Guangdong, China. Electronic address:

The incidence rate of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is the highest among the malignant tumors of otorhinolaryngology, posing a huge burden to public health. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) exert an important role in tumorigenesis and the progression of various cancers. The present study found that HOXC-AS1 was highly expressed in NPC and in NPC cell lines, suggesting a critical role of HOXC-AS1 in NPC progression.

Objective: To explore the regulation of microRNA-29a (miR-29a) on FOS in human nasal epithelial cells and its molecular mechanism, as well as the effects of miR-29a on the cell proliferation and apoptosis.

Methods: By cell transfection, gene silencing, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), flow cytometry and TUNEL assay (for cell apoptosis), CCK-8 assay (for cell proliferation), dual-luciferase reporter gene assay and Western Blot, it was validated that miR-29a promoted the proliferation of human nasal epithelial cells and inhibited their apoptosis by down-regulating FOS expression in RPMI2650 and HNEpC cell lines.

Results: ①Compared with healthy controls, miR-29a expression was up-regulated and FOS mRNA expression was down-regulated in the nasal tissues from the patients with allergic rhinitis (AR).

Platinum-crosslinking polymeric nanoparticle for synergetic chemoradiotherapy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

Bioact Mater

December 2021

Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Malignant Tumor Epigenetics and Gene Regulation, Guangdong-Hong Kong Joint Laboratory for RNA Medicine, Department of Radiology, Medical Research Center, Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, 510120, China.

Despite extensive use of radiotherapy in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) treatment because of its high radiosensitivity, there have been huge challenges in further improving therapeutic effect, meanwhile obviously reducing radiation damage. To this end, synergistic chemoradiotherapy has emerged as a potential strategy for highly effective NPC therapy. Here, we developed RGD-targeted platinum-based nanoparticles (RGD-PtNPs, denoted as RPNs) to achieve targeted chemoradiotherapy for NPC.

Transient receptor potential vanilloid type 4 (TRPV4) is a Ca-permeable cation channel that is known to be an osmosensor and thermosensor. Currently, limited evidence shows that TRPV4 plays opposite roles in either promoting or inhibiting cancer development in different cancer types. Furthermore, the precise biological functions and the underlying mechanisms of TRPV4 in carcinogenesis are still poorly understood.

This study attempts to provide clinical evidence on the origin of SSR-40Hz auditory evoked potential studying posttrauma coma patients. The SSR-40Hz present two types of morphology: an acute narrow wave, defined as "sharp", and a slow wide curve defined as "rounded". In constant recording of auditory brainstem responses (ABR) the "sharp" wave correlated with the absence of middle latency responses (MLR), and the "rounded" with their presence.
