There are no methods for specific local application of active substances to the mucosa of the esophagus to treat eosinophilic esophagitis or other esophageal diseases. This publication describes the principal in vivo functionality and acceptance of a novel modular drug delivery concept, called EsoCap system, by 12 healthy volunteers. For the first time, the EsoCap system enables targeted placement on the esophageal mucosa of a mucoadhesive polymer film.

The aim of our study was to investigate the association of hepatic steatosis derived from quantitative ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with prediabetes in a large population-based study conducted in Northeast Germany. Hepatic steatosis was assessed through transabdominal ultrasound and quantitative MRI. For analysis we included 1622 subjects with MRI who participated in an oral glucose tolerance test and reported no known type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Purpose: Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) is a genetic disorder that is associated with multiple tumors of the nervous system, and approximately one half of patients present with meningiomas. For patients with multifocal disease, somatostatin receptor-targeted peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) might be a suitable systemic treatment option.
Patients And Methods: Between March 2015 and August 2017, 11 NF2 patients (7 females and 4 males; mean age, 39 ± 12 years) with multifocal, progressive meningiomas underwent a median of 4 cycles of PRRT (range, 2-6 cycles).

A retrospective meta-analysis of magnetic resonance imaging voxel-based morphometry studies proposed that reduced gray matter volumes in the dorsal anterior cingulate and the left and right anterior insular cortex-areas that constitute hub nodes of the salience network-represent a common substrate for major psychiatric disorders. Here, we investigated the hypothesis that the common substrate serves as an intermediate phenotype to detect genetic risk variants relevant for psychiatric disease. To this end, after a data reduction step, we conducted genome-wide association studies of a combined common substrate measure in four population-based cohorts (n = 2271), followed by meta-analysis and replication in a fifth cohort (n = 865).

Background: Iron status has been linked with impaired glucose metabolism (IGM), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and the metabolic syndrome (MetS), but the role of hepatic steatosis or iron overload on these associations remains uncertain.
Methods: We analysed data from 2310 participants without known T2DM of the population-based Study of Health in Pomerania (SHIP-TREND, Germany) through logistic regression models. We tested additive and multiplicative interactions between ferritin and hepatic steatosis or iron overload.

To that end, the ENIGMA-CNV WG has collated CNV and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data from ~49,000 individuals across 38 global research sites, yielding one of the largest studies to date on the effects of CNVs on brain structures in the general population.

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a neuropathic pain condition that is difficult to treat. For behavioral interventions, graded motor imagery (GMI) showed relevant effects, but underlying neural substrates in patient groups have not been investigated yet.
