Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a clinically important risk factor for dental implant treatment failure. An imbalance in the microenvironment of the jawbone of diabetic patients can impair the functions of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), thereby interfering with implant osseointegration during the healing phase. This study aims to investigate potential molecular factors associated with abnormal BMSC biological functions in diabetic patients with dental implant failure and identify intervention targets to improve implant osseointegration.

We has synthesized the biocompatible gelatin reduced graphene oxide (GOG) in previous research, and in this study we would further evaluate its effects on bone remodeling in the aspects of osteoclastogenesis and angiogenesis so as to verify its impact on accelerating orthodontic tooth movement. The mouse orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) model tests showed that the tooth movement was accelerated in the GOG local injection group with more osteoclastic bone resorption and neovascularization compared with the PBS injection group. The analysis on the degradation of GOG in bone marrow stromal stem cells (BMSCs) illustrated its good biocompatibility and the accumulation of GOG in spleen after local injection of GOG around the teeth in OTM model also didn't influence the survival and life of animals.

January 2022

Beijing Institute of Dental Research, Beijing Stomatological Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China.

LINC00472 is reported to play a role in suppressing tumors in cancers such as lung cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma, among others. We made investigations into the effects of LINC00472 in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) progression to explore the underlying molecular mechanisms. By qRT-PCR, we assessed the LINC00472 expression in OSCC tissues and cells and performed functional analysis to investigate how LINC00472/miR-455-3p/ELF3 impacts OSCC cell proliferation, apoptosis, and cell cycle.

Increasing attention has been paid to cell-based medicines. Many in vivo and in vitro studies have demonstrated the efficacy of stem cell transplantation for the regeneration of periodontal tissues over the past 20 years. Although positive evidence has accumulated regarding periodontal regeneration using stem cells, the exact mechanism of tissue regeneration is still largely unknown.

J Bone Miner Res

March 2022

Beijing Institute of Dental Research, Beijing Stomatological Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China.

Gnathodiaphyseal dysplasia (GDD) is a rare autosomal dominant genetic disease characterized by the osteosclerosis of tubular bones and the formation of cemento-osseous lesions in mandibles. Although genetic mutations for GDD have been identified in the ANO5/TMEM16E gene, the cellular and molecular mechanisms behind the pathogenesis of GDD remain unclear. Here, we generated the first knock-in mouse model for GDD with the expression of human mutation p.

There are several studies that evaluate the use of lasers in periodontal treatment in non-surgical or surgical therapy. However, while several studies showed clinically beneficial effects of some lasers in periodontal treatment, there are few clinical reports of additional advantages of lasers as adjunctive treatments in periodontology. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate and critically analyze the level of scientific evidence of effects of low-level lasers and high-power lasers in periodontology.

The purpose of this clinical report is to present a complete digital workflow for the fabrication of complete arch fixed zirconia implant restorations. An intraoral scanner was used to capture the implants' position at the abutment level and also the patient's existing interim prostheses with the double digital scanning technique. A novel scan body and impression pin were utilized throughout the scanning process which allowed for the accurate and reproducible superimposition of the generated Standard Tesselation Language (STL) files.

Biological activity of titania coating prepared with zirconium oxychloride and titania on zirconia surface.

J Mech Behav Biomed Mater

November 2021

Beijing Institute of Dental Research, School of Stomatology, Capital Medical University, Beijing, 100050, China. Electronic address:

Zirconia is recognized as a promising dental implant material because of its good biocompatibility, sufficient mechanical strength, minimal ion release and aesthetic effects similar to natural teeth. However, the limitations of inert surface of zirconia affect the long-term efficacy of zirconia implants. To enhance the osseointegration of zirconia implants, titania (TiO) coating is prepared on the zirconia surface by immersion in a mixed zirconium oxychloride (ZrOCl) and TiO suspension in a water bath.
