Although Mono (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (MEHP) is a metabolite of Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), it has been confirmed to exhibit stronger biological toxicity than DEHP. Mitochondrial dynamic homeostasis and normal mitochondrial function regulate numerous physiological and pathological processes. However, it remains unclear whether MEHP triggers apoptosis, autophagy, and cell cycle arrest in grass carp kidney (CIK) cells by causing mitochondrial damage.

Emamectin benzoate (EMB), commonly used as an insecticide in fishery production, inevitably leaves residual chemicals in aquatic environments. High-level EMB exposure can cause severe damage to multiple systems of marine animals, potentially through mechanisms involving severe mitochondrial damage and oxidative stress. However, it is not clear yet how EMB exposure at a certain level can cause damage to fish kidney tissue.

Mitigating pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) and post-harvest food loss (PHFL) is essential for enhancing food securrity. To reduce food loss, the use of plant derived specialized metabolites can represent a good approach to develop a more eco-friendly agriculture. Here, we have discovered that soybean seeds hidden underground during winter by Tscherskia triton and Apodemus agrarius during winter possess a higher concentration of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) compared to those remaining exposed in fields.

Identifying the ecological forces that structure root-associated microbial communities is an essential step toward more sustainable agriculture. Legumes are widely utilized as model plants to study selective forces and their functioning in plant-microbial interactions owing to their ability to establish mutualism with rhizobia. Root nodules act as symbiotic organs to optimize the cost-benefit balance in this mutualistic relationship by modulating the number of nodules.

Reactive carbonyl species (RCS) derived from lipid peroxides can act as critical damage or signaling mediators downstream of reactive oxygen species by modifying target proteins. However, their biological effects and underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown in plants. Here, we have uncovered the mechanism by which the RCS 4-hydroxy-(E)-2-nonenal (HNE) participates in photosystem II (PSII) repair cycle of chloroplasts, a crucial process for maintaining PSII activity under high and changing light conditions.

Rice has been reported to be highly sensitive to salt stress at the seedling stage. However, the lack of target genes that can be used for improving salt tolerance has resulted in several saline soils unsuitable for cultivation and planting. To characterize new salt-tolerant genes, we used 1,002 F populations derived from Teng-Xi144 and Long-Dao19 crosses as the phenotypic source to systematically characterize seedlings' survival days and ion concentration under salt stress.
