Fetal programming may arise from prenatal exposure and increase the risk of diseases later in life, potentially mediated by the placenta. The objective of this systematic review was to summarize and critically evaluate publications describing associations between human placental changes and risk of atopic disorders during childhood. The review adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis guidelines.

Introduction: Unilateral pulmonary edema (UPE), a life-threatening complication of cardiac surgery, often occurs after prolonged cardiopulmonary bypass and lung collapse, especially in minimally-invasive cardiac surgery (MICS). The present study reported a young patient with severe UPE after the surgery as well as corresponding clinical treatments. In addition to the supportive treatment of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), monitoring changes in cardiopulmonary function and early clinical interventions are crucial.

Primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an acquired autoimmune disease with multiple immune cells take part in the pathogenesis. Macrophages play multiple roles in both innate and adaptive immune system. The report by Jiani Mo and colleagues identified new biomarkers and explore the role of mitophagy and ferroptosis in ITP pathogenesis.

Objective: To evaluate whether artificial intelligence (AI) based automatic image analysis utilising convolutional neural networks (CNNs) can be used to evaluate computed tomography urography (CTU) for the presence of urinary bladder cancer (UBC) in patients with macroscopic hematuria.
Methods: Our study included patients who had undergone evaluation for macroscopic hematuria. A CNN-based AI model was trained and validated on the CTUs included in the study on a dedicated research platform (Recomia.
Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common motor disability in children. To ascertain the role of major genetic variants in the etiology of CP, we conducted exome sequencing on a large-scale cohort with clinical manifestations of CP. The study cohort comprised 505 girls and 1,073 boys.

Lung cancer is a common malignancy that is frequently associated with systemic metabolic disorders. Early detection is pivotal to survival improvement. Although blood biomarkers have been used in its early diagnosis, missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis still exist due to the heterogeneity of lung cancer.

Purpose: There is a lack of knowledge concerning differences between females and males in the early stages after an acute Achilles tendon rupture. This article aims to explore the different factors affecting early function after an Achilles tendon rupture with a validated test battery that includes functional tests, clinical measurements and patient-reported outcome at a 3-month follow-up analysis of a larger prospective study.
Methods: This study was part of the DUSTAR-study (Diagnostic UltraSonography for the choice of Treatment of acute Achilles tendon Rupture) where the main aim was to evaluate if an acute ultrasonography could determine which patients, with an Achilles tendon rupture, should be treated surgically or nonsurgically.

Objective: To demonstrate that successful health systems strengthening (HSS) projects have addressed disparities and inequities in maternal and perinatal care in low-income countries.
Methods: A comprehensive literature review covered the period between 1980 and 2022, focusing on successful HSS interventions within health systems' seven core components that improved maternal and perinatal care.
Results: The findings highlight the importance of integrating quality interventions into robust health systems, as this has been shown to reduce maternal and newborn mortality.

Postpartum depression (PPD) has a significant impact on the physical and mental health of mothers, potentially leading to symptoms such as low mood, fatigue, and decreased appetite. It may also affect the healthy growth of the infant. The onset of PPD is closely related to abnormalities in inflammation and the immune system.

Introduction: Cerebral palsy (CP) is a nonprogressive movement disorder resulting from a prenatal or perinatal brain injury that benefits from early diagnosis and intervention. The timing of early CP diagnosis remains controversial, necessitating analysis of clinical features in a substantial cohort.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records from a university hospital, focusing on children aged ≥24 months or followed up for ≥24 months and adhering to the International Classification of Diseases-10 for diagnosis and subtyping.

Topic: Assessing reporting standards in glaucoma studies utilizing electronic health records (EHR).
Clinical Relevance: Glaucoma's significance, underscored by its status as a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, necessitates reliable research findings. This study evaluates adherence to the CODE-EHR best-practice framework in glaucoma studies using EHR, aiming to improve clinical care and patient outcomes.

Aim: To examine possible geographical and temporal differences in the incidence of childhood-onset inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in Norway, motivated by previous research indicating relevant environmental factors explaining changing epidemiology.
Methods: We analysed data from children born in Norway from 2004 to 2012 (n = 541 036) in a registry-based nationwide study. After validating registry diagnoses against medical records, we defined IBD as ≥2 entries of International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision (ICD-10) codes K50, K51 and K52.

Phages can specifically recognize and kill bacteria, which lead to important application value of bacteriophage in bacterial identification and typing, livestock aquaculture and treatment of human bacterial infection. Considering the variety of human-infected bacteria and the continuous discovery of numerous pathogenic bacteria, screening suitable therapeutic phages that are capable of infecting pathogens from massive phage databases has been a principal step in phage therapy design. Experimental methods to identify phage-host interaction (PHI) are time-consuming and expensive; high-throughput computational method to predict PHI is therefore a potential substitute.

(1) Background: Estimates suggest that up to 10% of global annual cardiovascular deaths could be related to environmental factors. Not only air pollution components, but also noise exposure and climate changes, are highlighted as nontraditional causes of cardiovascular morbidity. The aim of this study was to identify possible urbanization risk factors for the progression of coronary artery disease in a group of patients with chronic coronary syndrome.

Univentricular heart anomalies represent a group of severe congenital heart defects necessitating early surgical intervention in infancy. The Fontan procedure, the final stage of single-ventricle palliation, establishes a serial connection between systemic and pulmonary circulation by channeling venous return to the lungs. The absence of the subpulmonary ventricle in this peculiar circulation progressively eventuates in failure, primarily due to chronic elevation in inferior vena cava (IVC) pressure.

Background: Somatisation is a highly prevalent psychiatric syndrome in both women and men, in which psychological distress is manifested in physical symptoms without a medical explanation. Many patients with somatisation disorder are high healthcare utilisers, particularly at emergency departments. Unnecessary investigations and diagnostic operations occur frequently, which cause both patient suffering and a significant burden on the healthcare system.

Introduction: This study aimed to identify whether microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity and/or intra-amniotic inflammation in women with late preterm prelabor rupture of membranes (PPROM) was associated with changes in concentrations of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1), placental growth factor (PlGF) and its ratio in maternal serum, and whether placental features consistent with maternal vascular malperfusion further affect their concentrations.
Material And Methods: This historical study included 154 women with singleton pregnancies complicated by PPROM between gestational ages 34+0 and 36+6 weeks. Transabdominal amniocentesis was performed as part of standard clinical management to evaluate the intra-amniotic environment.
