To evaluate the efficacy and safety of neoadjuvant immunotherapy for patients with microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) or DNA polymerase ε (POLE)-mutated locally advanced colorectal cancer (LACRC) with bulky tumors. PATIENTS: We retrospectively reviewed 22 consecutive patients with MSI-H or POLE-mutated LACRC with bulky tumors (>8 cm in diameter) who received preoperative programmed death-1 blockade, with or without CapOx chemotherapy. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Pathological complete response (pCR), clinical complete response (cCR), toxicity, R0 resection rate, and complications were evaluated.

Background: Coronary artery atherosclerosis development and progression are related to generic, clinical, and lifestyle factors combined with inflammatory activation. The relationship between trace element concentration and morbidity is under investigation to gain a clearer understanding of underlying pathological processes.
Methods: Thirty-five consecutive patients (22 males and 13 females) with a median [interquartile range (IQR)] age of 67 (61-73) years presenting with anginal symptoms were included in the single center prospective analysis in 2022 and divided into a epicardial coronary artery disease (CAD) and non-CAD group.

Background: Thoracic aortic aneurysms are often an accidental finding and result from a degenerative process. Medical therapy includes pharmacological control of arterial hypertension and smoking cessation, that slows the growth of aneurysms. An association between the dilatation of the ascending and abdominal aorta has been already reported.

The global challenge of preterm birth persists with little or no progress being made to reduce its prevalence or mitigate its consequences, especially in low-resource settings where health systems are less well developed. Improved delivery of respectful person-centered care employing effective care models delivered by skilled healthcare professionals is essential for addressing these needs. These FIGO good practice recommendations provide an overview of the evidence regarding the effectiveness of the various care models for preventing and managing preterm birth across global contexts.

Purpose: Etoposide to standard R-CHOP is used for high-risk diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) in some countries. Due to the lack of randomized trials, a real-world data study using matching methods was used to test the potential effectiveness of R-CHOEP over R-CHOP.
Patients And Methods: This study included patients from the Danish Lymphoma Register diagnosed between 2006 and 2020 at the age of 18-60 years with de novo DLBCL and age-adjusted IPI ≥2.

Advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients have poor prognosis. As an endogenous antioxidant enzyme involved in a variety of bioprocesses, sulfiredoxin-1 (SRXN1) plays an irreplaceable role in promoting the development of tumors. However, the role and working mechanism of SRXN1 in HCC remain unclear.

Introduction: Global warming is claimed to be an important cardiovascular disease risk factor. The air pollution and ambient temperatures are believed to have a significant influence on increased morbidity and premature deaths.
Aim: To point out possible causative factors for coronary angiography progression in patients presenting with chronic coronary syndrome.

Degenerative mitral valve disease is a common valvular disease with two arguably distinct phenotypes: fibroelastic deficiency and Barlow's disease. These phenotypes significantly alter the microstructures of the leaflets, particularly the collagen fibers, which are the main mechanical load carriers. The predominant method of investigation is histological sections.

Background And Objective: There is an unmet need to avoid long-term morbidity associated with standard cytotoxic treatment for low-volume metastatic seminoma. Our aim was to assess the oncological efficacy and surgical safety of retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) as treatment in a population-based cohort of metastatic seminoma patients with limited retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy.
Methods: Sixty-two seminoma patients in Norway and Sweden were included in the cohort from 2019 to 2022.

Objectives: Telehealth and home spirometry feasibility for children has been established, but their impact on cystic fibrosis (CF) disease progression remains unassessed. We aimed to evaluate the effects of telehealth and home spirometry on CF disease progression and care.
Methods: Children with CF aged 5-17 years from all Swedish CF centers were provided with home spirometers.

Background: Plasma lipid concentrations in patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) seem to be altered.
Methods: We conducted a naturalistic study with 75 adult female patients with AN and 26 healthy female controls (HC). We measured plasma lipid profile, sex hormones and used self-report questionnaires at admission and discharge.

Aims: We aimed to describe the clinical, economic, and societal burdens of cystic fibrosis (CF) and impact of CF transmembrane conductance regulator modulator (CFTRm) treatment on people with CF, caregivers, and healthcare systems.
Material And Methods: This retrospective study used linked real-world data from Swedish national population-based registries and the Swedish CF Quality Registry to assess clinical, economic, and societal burden and CFTR impact in CF. Records from people with CF and a ten-fold control population without CF matched by sex, birth year, and location were compared during 2019.

This study aimed to assess the expression profile of messenger RNA (mRNA) and microRNA (miRNA) related to the dopaminergic system in five types of breast cancer in Polish women. Patients with five breast cancer subtypes were included in the study: luminal A ( = 130), luminal B ( = 196, including HER2-, = 100; HER2+, = 96), HER2+ ( = 36), and TNBC ( = 43); they underwent surgery, during which tumor tissue was removed along with a margin of healthy tissue (control material). The molecular analysis included a microarray profile of mRNAs and miRNAs associated with the dopaminergic system, a real-time polymerase chain reaction preceded by reverse transcription for selected genes, and determinations of their concentration using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

Purpose: To analyse the 52,199 patients in the Swedish Knee Ligament Register (SKLR) preoperatively, and the patients reaching 5- and 10-year follow-ups who underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), revision ACLR and ACLR on the contralateral side (CACLR). The main hypothesis was that patients undergoing revision ACLR would have worse patient-reported outcome measurements (PROMs) than the primary ACLR group at 10 years and that smoking and concomitant injuries would result in poorer outcomes for all groups.
Methods: Data from 2005 to 2021 were extracted from the SKLR.

Recent advances in tumor molecular subtyping have revolutionized precision oncology, offering novel avenues for patient-specific treatment strategies. However, a comprehensive and independent comparison of these subtyping methodologies remains unexplored. This study introduces 'Themis' (Tumor HEterogeneity analysis on Molecular subtypIng System), an evaluation platform that encapsulates a few representative tumor molecular subtyping methods, including Stemness, Anoikis, Metabolism, and pathway-based classifications, utilizing 38 test datasets curated from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and significant studies.

Background: Circulating miRNAs (c-miR) have been shown to be potential biomarkers in sarcopenia, but the miRNAs response to aerobic exercise in older people remains inconclusive. We sought to examine the exercise benefits on physical fitness and miRNAs, and to explore the mediating effect of miRNAs on training-induced fitness changes.
Methods: This controlled trial recruited 58 community-dwelling older adults and randomized them into exercise group (EX) and control group (CON).

Background: An imbalance between pro- and anti-inflammatory mechanisms is indicated in the pathophysiology of atherosclerotic plaque. The coronary artery and carotid disease, despite sharing similar risk factors, are developed separately. The aim of this study was to analyze possible mechanisms between trace element hair-scalp concentrations and whole blood counts that favor atherosclerotic plaque progression in certain locations.
