Artemisinin () is a milestone compound in malaria treatment, and it exhibits a broad scope of bioactivities. Herein, sequential chemo-reduction and biotransformation of artemisinin were undertaken to obtain a series of artemisinin derivatives. First, 10-deoxyartemisinin () and 9-ene-10-deoxyartemisinin () were synthesized after simple handling with boron trifluoride/diethyl ether and sodium borohydride.

Dihydroartemisinin (DHA) is a sesquiterpene endoperoxide with prominent antimalarial efficacy, which was discovered by Professor Youyou Tu through the reduction of artemisinin in the 1970s. It is always a challenging work for scientists to investigate the metabolites of DHA in the red blood cells due to the complicated matrix background. As a bottleneck, the investigation of metabolites, especially exploring the pharmacodynamic material in the red blood cell, is necessary and significant for metabolism research of antimalarial agent.

Artemisia Argyi Folium, a traditional Chinese medicine of important medicinal and economic value, sees increasing demand in medicinal and moxibustion product market. Screening stable and reliable reference genes for quantitative real-time PCR(qRT-PCR) is a prerequisite for the analysis of gene expression in Artemisia argyi. In this study, eight commonly used reference genes, Actin, 18s, EF-1α, GAPDH, SAND, PAL, TUA, and TUB, from the transcriptome of A.

Although sorafenib (Sora) shows improved efficacy in clinical liver cancer therapy, its therapeutic efficacy is still greatly limited due to side effects as well as drug resistance. Thus new drug intervention strategies are imperative. Our research showed the combined application of Dihydroartemisinin (DHA) and Sora had a synergistic inhibitory effect on HepG2 and SW480 cells, and DHA enhanced Sora efficacy on xenograft tumor in nude mice.

A direct decarboxylative cyclization between readily available isatoic anhydrides and cyclic amines was established to construct polycyclic fused quinazolinones employing electrochemical methods. This procedure was performed in an undivided cell without the use of a transition-metal-catalyst and external oxidant. A broad scope of polycyclic fused quinazolinones were obtained in moderate to good yields.

Malaria is an infectious disease caused by group. The mechanisms of antimalarial drugs DHA/CQ are still unclear today. The inhibitory effects (IC) of single treatments with DHA/CQ or V-ATPase inhibitor Baf-A1 or combination treatments by DHA/CQ combined with Baf-A1 on the growth of strain 3D7 was investigated.

Context: Hyperuricaemia is known as an abnormally increased uric acid level in the blood. Although it was observed many years ago, since uric acid excretion via the intestine pathway accounted for approximately one-third of total elimination of uric acid, the molecular mechanism of 'extra-renal excretion' was poorly understood until the finding of uric acid transporters.
Objective: The objective of this study was to gather all information related to uric acid transporters in the intestine and present this information as a comprehensive and systematic review article.

The Aconitum species, which mainly contain bioactive Aconitum alkaloids, are frequently administered concomitantly with other herbal medicines or chemical drugs in clinics. The potential risk of drug-drug interactions (DDIs) arising from co-administration of Aconitum alkaloids and other drugs against specific targets such as P-glycoprotein (P-gp) must be evaluated. This study focused on the effects of three representative Aconitum alkaloids: aconitine (AC), benzoylaconine (BAC), and aconine, on the expression and activity of P-gp.

The over-collection and habitat destruction of natural Dendrobium populations for their commercial medicinal value has led to these plants being under severe threat of extinction. In addition, many Dendrobium plants are similarly shaped and easily confused during the absence of flowering stages. In the present study, we examined the application of the ITS2 region in barcoding and phylogenetic analyses of Dendrobium species (Orchidaceae).

This study used a novel combination of in vivo and in vitro experiments to show that Braintone had neuroprotective effects and clarified the molecular mechanisms underlying its efficacy. The Chinese herbal extract Braintone is composed of Radix Rhodiolase Essence, Radix Notoginseng Essence, Folium Ginkgo Essence and Rhizoma Chuanxiong. In vivo experiments showed that cerebral infarction volume was reduced, hemispheric water content decreased, and neurological deficits were alleviated in a rat model of permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion after administration of 87.

This study aimed to establish a novel method to screen out the combined components of multi-fractions traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), so that the internal relationship between multi-ingredients could be objectively assessed and the proportioning ratio could be optimized. Taking antiviral effect on neuraminidase activity of influenza virus as the evaluating indicator and using Box-Behnken response surface methodology, the main effective ingredients of Shuanghuanglian injection (SHL) were screened. Meanwhile, the relationship between active ingredients was discussed.

Aim Of The Study: Cornu Saigae Tataricae (antelope horn), Manis Squama (pangolin scale), Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum (velvet antler) and Cornu Bovis grunniens (yak horn) are valuable medicinal animal horns and shells (MAHS). As the major source of biological agents and ethnodrugs, MAHS show pretty good bioactivities. However, with the increased demand for MAHS, some of the medicinal resources are endangered, and there has been a concomitant increase in the prevalence of adulterated or impostor MAHS.

Musk is a precious and wide applied material in traditional Chinese medicine, also, an important material for the perfume industry all over the world. To establish a rapid, cost-effective and relatively objective assessment for the quality of musk, different musk samples, including authentic, fake and adulterate, were collected. A oxide sensor based electronic nose (E-nose) was employed to measure the musk samples, the E-nose generated data were analyzed by principal component analysis (PCA), the responses of 18 sensors of E-nose were evaluated by loading analysis.
