Background And Objective: Pulmonary carcinoids (PCs) represent a rare subset of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) within the respiratory tract that exhibit unique characteristics and clinical behaviors. These tumors are currently staged according to the tumor-nodules-metastases (TNM) classification of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), which brings their reliability into question. The aim of this study was to assess reliability of the current TNM staging of PCs and explore other relevant prognostic factors of patient outcomes.

Background: The 2022 WHO guidelines on multi-drug/rifampicin resistant tuberculosis (MDR/RR-TB) recommend six months of bedaquiline (Bdq) in the all-oral 9-month shorter regimen and six months or longer for Bdq and delamanid (Dlm) in the 18-20-month longer regimen. However, lack of evidence on extended treatment using Bdq or Dlm has limited their use to six months. We examine the frequency and incidence of QT prolongation based on duration of Bdq and/or Dlm use in longer regimens.

Introduction: Acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are always associated with high mortality. Because of the presence of some concomitant risk factors such as immobilization and bronchial superinfection, patients who are admitted for acute exacerbations of COPD are generally considered to be at moderate risk for the development of venous thromboembolism. Thromboembolism is a cause of unexplained dyspnea, exacerbations, and mortality in COPD.

Background And Objective: Pulmonary vascular variations are a major factor in thoracic surgeries. Minimally invasive techniques, such as video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) used in non-small lung cancer treatment, have a limited field of view and no haptic feedback. Additionally, new studies suggest that segmentectomies are beneficial for patients.

Background Immunomodulatory therapy for chronic rheumatic disease carries a risk for infectious complications. In Bangladesh, there is limited information regarding patterns and factors associated with infections among patients receiving immunosuppressive medications. Objective The present study aimed to find out patterns and predictors associated with infection among patients who were on different immunosuppressive medications due to chronic rheumatological disease.

Background: The theoretical advantage of academic hospitals over nonacademic are: more qualified surgeons, adequate diagnostic facilities and infrastructure, including intensive care units. The aim of the study was to compare the effectiveness of surgical lung cancer treatment in academic (ACA) and nonacademic (non-ACA) centers.
Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of data from 31,777 patients surgically-treated for lung cancer during the period from 2007 to 2020 in 9 ACA and 21 non-ACA centers.

Objective: To determine the yield of Gastric lavage (GL) in non-expectorating adults with suspected Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB) and accuracy of GL-AFB smear with GL-GeneXpert (GXP) by taking AFB culture as gold standard.
Methods: Cross-sectional study on suspected PTB patients was done at Ojha Institute of Chest Diseases during period 16 July 2020 till 15 January 2021. Adult patients of either gender suspected to have PTB and not expectorating were included.

Unlabelled: This study aimed to examine the differences in epidemiologic and disease aspects among patients with coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19).
Methods: The authors reviewed the hospital records between April 2020 and September 2021 and followed up on the patients for post-COVID complications.
Findings: Older adult patients were predominantly affected during the third wave, and middle-aged patients were predominantly affected during the first and second waves.
Objective: Wide arrays of laboratory parameters have been proposed by many studies for prognosis in COVID-19 patients. In this study, we wanted to determine if the International Severe Acute Respiratory and Emerging Infections Consortium-Coronavirus Clinical Characterization Consortium score in addition to certain clinical and laboratory parameters would help in predicting mortality. We wanted to determine if a greater severity score on chest x-ray at presentation translated to poor patient outcomes using the COVID-19 chest radiography score.

Present study aimed to explore alterations of serum metal contents in patients of chronic kidney disease before and after haemodialysis (HD) compared to controls. For the levels of heavy metals in serum samples of kidney patients before and after HD belonging to different areas of Hyderabad and adjoining areas admitted at different hospitals of Hyderabad. In this study, the level of copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), chromium (Cr), iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) in serum sample of kidney patients and controls have been investigated using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS).

Multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) treatment takes 18-24 months and is complex, costly and isolating. We provide trial evidence on the WHO Pakistan recommendation for community-based care rather than hospital-based care. Two-arm, parallel-group, superiority trial was conducted in three programmatic management of drug-resistant TB hospitals in Punjab and Sindh Provinces, Pakistan.

Decentralized, person-centred models of care delivery for drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) continue to be under-resourced in high-burden TB countries. The implementation of such models-made increasingly urgent by the COVID-19 pandemic-are key to addressing gaps in DR-TB care. We abstracted data of rifampicin-resistant (RR)/multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) patients initiated on treatment at 11 facilities between 2010 and 2017 in Sindh and Balochistan provinces of Pakistan.

Background: For patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome, a ventilator is essential to supply oxygen to tissues, but it may also cause lung damage. In this study, we investigated the role of NOX4 using NOX4 knockout (KO) mice and NOX4 inhibitors in a ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) model.
Methods: Wild-type (WT) male C57BL/6J mice and NOX4 knockout (KO) male mice were divided into five groups: (1) control group; (2) high tidal ventilation (HTV) group: WT mice + HTV ± DMSO; (3) NOX4 KO group; (4) NOX4 KO with HTV group; (5) NOX4 inhibitor group: WT mice + HTV + NOX4 inhibitor.

Background: Concomitant use of bedaquiline (Bdq) and delamanid (Dlm) for multi-drug/rifampicin resistant tuberculosis (MDR/RR-TB) has raised concerns about a potentially poor risk-benefit ratio. Yet this combination is an important alternative for patients infected with strains of TB with complex drug resistance profiles or who cannot tolerate other therapies. We assessed safety and treatment outcomes of MDR/RR-TB patients receiving concomitant Bdq and Dlm, along with other second-line anti-TB drugs.
