This study investigates the effectiveness of polyaniline oxide (PANI) nanoparticles as photocatalysts for the degradation of organic dyes under visible light irradiation. Known for their stability and adjustable conductivity, PANI nanoparticles were synthesized a hydrothermal method using P123 surfactants, followed by calcination. The morphology, structural phase, and optical properties of the synthesized PANI materials were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Raman spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR).

In this study, a novel drug delivery system based on zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) was developed for the enhanced delivery of cisplatin (CPT) to improve cancer treatment. The ZnO NPs were synthesized from guava leaf extract and then surface-functionalized with gallic acid (GA) to improve their biocompatibility and drug loading capacity. Pluronic F127, a biocompatible polymer, was then conjugated to the GA-modified ZnO NPs to further enhance their stability and cellular uptake.

Heavy metals such as cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), and lead (Pb) pose significant health risks, particularly in Asia, where rice is a staple for nearly three billion people. Despite their known dangers and environmental prevalence, studies addressing their concentrations in rice across different regions and the associated health implications remain insufficient. This review systematically examines the occurrence and impact of these toxic elements, filling a critical gap in the literature.

Heparin recently has been discovered as a novel anti-cancer agent. The combinations of heparin with other agents was reported not only to reduce the undesired effects of free heparin and increase the cellular uptake of the delivered molecules, but also is the basis for the design and development of multi-stimulation response systems to improve their killing cancer cell efficiency at the target positions. This study aimed to design a redox and pH dual-responsive anticancer system based on heparin for cisplatin (CPT) therapy.

Cellulose acetate (CA), a very promising derivative of cellulose, has come into the focus of research due to its highly desired good film-forming ability for food packaging applications. Frequently, this derivative is used in combination with other compounds (polymers, nanoparticles) in order to obtain active materials. Here, we report the preparation of thin films made of cellulose acetate loaded with chitosan (CS) using the solution blow spinning (SBS) method.

In recent years, pharmaceutical active compounds (PhACs) have attained global prevalence. The behavior of PhACs in agricultural soils is complex and depends on several factors, such as the nature of the compounds and their physicochemical characteristics, which affect their fate and potential threats to human health, ecosystems, and the environment. The detection of residual pharmaceutical content is possible in both agricultural soils and environmental matrices.

Air pollution and infectious diseases (such as the COVID-19 pandemic) have attracted considerable attention from governments and scientists worldwide to find the best solutions to address these issues. In this study, a new simultaneous antibacterial and particulate matter (PM) filtering Ag/graphene-integrated non-woven polypropylene textile was fabricated by simply immersing the textile into a Ag/graphene-containing solution. The Ag/graphene nanocomposite was prepared by reducing Ag ions on the surface of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) using the leaf extract.

Metal-organic complexes are one of the most studied materials in the last few decades, which are fabricated from organic ligands and metal ions to form robust frameworks with porous structures. In this work, iron-1,4-benzenedicarboxylic-polyethylene glycol (Fe-BDC-PEG) with a porous structure was successfully constructed by an iron(III) benzene dicarboxylate and polyethylene glycol diacid. The drug-delivery properties of the resultant Fe-BDC-PEG were tested for the loading and release of the 5-fluorouracil compound.

In this study, the operation parameters of a partial nitrification process (PN) treating saline wastewater were optimized using the Box-Behnken design via the response surface methodology (BBD-RSM). A novel strategy based on the control of the carbon/nitrogen ratio (C/N), alkalinity/ammonia ratio (K/A), and salinity in three stages was used to achieve PN in a sequence batch reactor. The results demonstrated that a high and stable PN was completed after 50 d with an ammonia removal efficiency (ARE) of 98.

The purpose of this study was to examine the application of the mathematical model of drift flux to the experimental results of the effect of cationic trimethyl-ammonium bromide (CTAB)-aided continuous foam flotation harvesting on the lipid content in Chlorella vulgaris microalgae. An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of the operating conditions on the enrichment factor (EF) and percentage recovery efficiency (%RE), where the flow rates at the inlet and bottom outlet remained constant. Data for the binary system (without algae) and ternary system (with algae) in an equal-area foam column show that the EF decreases linearly with increasing initial CTAB concentrations ranging from 30 to 75 mg/L for three levels of the studied air volumetric flow rate range (1-3) L/min.

Small Extracellular Vesicles (sEVs) are 50-200 nm in diameter vesicles delimited by a lipid bilayer, formed within the endosomal network or derived from the plasma membrane. They are secreted in various biological fluids, including airway nasal mucus. The goal of this work was to understand the role of sEVs present in the mucus (mu-sEVs) produced by human nasal epithelial cells (HNECs) in SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Thermoresponsive dendronized gelatins () or gelatin methacrylates () were used as precursors to modulate the efficient reduction of Au(III) to form stable gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) through UV irradiation. These dendronized gelatins were obtained through the amidation of gelatin or gelatin methacrylates with dendritic oligoethylene glycols (OEGs). Crowded OEG dendrons along the gelatin backbones create a hydrophobic microenvironment, which promotes the reduction of Au(III).
