Exposure to organophosphorus nerve agents irreversibly inhibits acetylcholinesterase and may lead to cholinergic crisis and seizures. Although benzodiazepines are the standard of care after nerve agent-induced status epilepticus, when treatment is delayed for up to 30 min or more, refractory status epilepticus can develop. Adult male rodents are often utilized for evaluation of therapeutic efficacy against nerve agent exposure.

Chemical warfare nerve agents (CWNAs) are potent and irreversible inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase (AChE). Oxime reactivators are an important part of the standard treatment for CWNA exposure as they can reactivate inhibited AChE. Evaluating the oxime candidates of interest in biological samples requires analytical detection methods and oxime reactivators as a class of compounds have historically been notoriously difficult to isolate, detect and analyze in an analytical laboratory, and there are currently no sensitive or robust analytical detection methods in the literature.

Particulate matters (PMs), one of the major airborne pollutants, continue to seriously threaten human health and the environment. Here, a self-crystal-induced electret enhancement (SCIEE) strategy was developed to promote the in-situ electret effect and polarization properties of electrospun poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) nanofibers. The strategy specifically involved the elaborate pre-structuring of stereocomplex crystals (SCs) with uniform dimensions (∼300 nm), which were introduced into PLLA electrospinning solution as the electrets and physical cross-linking points of high density.

We have shown that briefly inhaled isoflurane rapidly halts convulsions and protects the central nervous system (CNS) from organophosphate-induced neuronal loss when administered at 5% for 5 min, even as late as 1 h after organophosphate exposure. In the current study we investigated if an injectable form of isoflurane was as effective as inhaled isoflurane. We used a mixture of 10% isoflurane dissolved in an IV-compatible lipid-water emulsion for intravenous administration.

Composite electrolytes have been accepted as the most promising species for solid-state batteries, exhibiting the synergistic advantages of solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) and solid ceramic electrolytes (SCEs). Unfortunately, the interrupted Li conduction across the SPE and SCE interface hinders the ionic conductivity improvement of composite electrolytes. In our study on a ceramic-rich composite electrolyte (CRCE) membrane composed of borate polyanion-based lithiated poly(vinyl formal) (LiPVFM) and LiAlTi(PO) (LATP) particles, it is found that the strong interaction between the polyanions in LiPVFM and LATP particles results in a uniform distribution of ceramic particles at a high proportion of 50 wt % and good robustness of the electrolyte membrane with a Young's modulus of 9.
