Article Synopsis
  • Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) affects over 1% of the global population, causing social difficulties and repetitive behaviors, often alongside other conditions like anxiety.
  • Research on mice exposed to valproic acid (VPA) as a prenatal factor suggests that the probiotic PS128 may improve behavioral symptoms in ASD by restoring dendritic structure and oxytocin levels.
  • These findings point to PS128’s potential in altering gut microbiota and supporting the development of new therapies for ASD.

Long-term potentiation (LTP) is one of the major cellular mechanisms for learning and memory. Activity-dependent increases in surface AMPA receptors (AMPARs) are important for enhanced synaptic efficacy during LTP. Here, we report a novel function of a secretory trafficking protein, ICA69, in AMPAR trafficking, synaptic plasticity, and animal cognition.
