Intermicrobial interactions play a key role in the regulation of microbial populations and the colonization of various ecological niches. In the present study, we assessed the effect of cell-free supernatants (CFSs) from the vaginal isolates Corynebacterium amycolatum ICIS 53 and Corynebacterium amycolatum ICIS 82 on urogenital test strain biofilm formation of Staphylococcus aureus. Our studies showed that the CFSs of both C.

The objective of the present review was to provide a timely update on the molecular mechanisms underlying the beneficial role of Se in Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis, and discuss the potential role of gut microbiota modulation in this neuroprotective effect. The existing data demonstrate that selenoproteins P, M, S, R, as well as glutathione peroxidases and thioredoxin reductases are involved in regulation of Aβ formation and aggregation, tau phosphorylation and neurofibrillary tangles formation, as well as mitigate the neurotoxic effects of Aβ and phospho-tau. Correspondingly, supplementation with various forms of Se in cellular and animal models of AD was shown to reduce Aβ formation, tau phosphorylation, reverse the decline in brain antioxidant levels, inhibit neuronal oxidative stress and proinflammatory cytokine production, improve synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis, altogether resulting in improved cognitive functions.

To study how indigenous or probiotic-introduced lactobacilli affect the sensitivity (estimated as the proportion of surviving, apoptotic, and nonapoptotic deaths) of vaginal epithelial cells obtained from HPV-negative and HPV-positive patients to oxidative damage. The tendency to resist oxidative damage in vaginal epithelial cells of 147 HPV-positive and 59 HPV-negative patients with physiological or suboptimal levels of Lactobacillus was evaluated. Adaptation of cell to curb the oxidative damage in 146 HPV positive and 41 HPV negative with probiotic (Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus Lcr35) supplementation and without was studied.

Purpose Of Review: Deficiencies in micronutrients persist as widespread global challenges, where supplementation remains a crucial therapeutic approach. This review aims to elucidate the intricate relationships between micronutrient supplementation - specifically iron, selenium (Se), and vitamin D (Vit D) - and gut microbiota composition, investigating their collective impact on host health and disease susceptibility.
Recent Findings: Maintaining balanced iron levels is essential for gut microbiota equilibrium and host health, as both iron deficiency and excess disrupt gut bacterial balance, affecting colon health.

The competitiveness and profitability of the poultry industry in market conditions are hampered by growing problems with the safety and quality of poultry meat. The use of targeted microbial preparations can assist in resolving these problems. Numerous studies of the properties of bacteria of the genus have shown their effectiveness in the practice of poultry farming.

Methylmercury (MeHg) remains a global public health issue because of its frequent presence in human food sources obtained from the water. The excretion of MeHg in humans occurs slowly with a biological half-time of 32-47 days. Short-term MeHg exposure may cause long-lasting neurotoxicity.

The aim of the present review was to summarize the potential interactive effects between the gut microbiota and advanced glycation end‑product (AGE) accumulation and toxicity in the host, and to reveal potential the mediatory effects of the gut microbiota on AGE‑related health effects. The existing data demonstrate that dietary AGEs can have a significant impact on the richness and diversity of the gut microbiota, although the particular effect is dependent on the type of species, as well as the exposure dose. In addition, the gut microbiota may metabolize dietary AGEs.

The antioxidant effects of selenium as a component of selenoproteins has been thought to modulate host immunity and viral pathogenesis. Accordingly, the association of low dietary selenium status with inflammatory and immunodeficiency has been reported in the literature; however, the causal role of selenium deficiency in chronic inflammatory diseases and viral infection is still undefined. The COVID-19, characterized by acute respiratory syndrome and caused by the novel coronavirus 2, SARS-CoV-2, has infected millions of individuals worldwide since late 2019.

Based on the clinical and microbiological monitoring of two groups of children aged 3 to 17 years with acute (n=78) and chronic (n=46) course of reactive arthritis (ReA), a method for early diagnosis of chronic arthritis was developed by determining the number of antibiotic-resistant coprostrains in patients with ReA, characterized by the absence of the need to isolate a pure culture of the pathogen and its identification; inoculation of faeces at a dilution of 10-5 on solid 1.5% GRM-agar with an antibacterial agents used in the treatment of a particular patient, at a minimum inhibitory concentration in the resistance range, followed by incubation and counting of the colonies of microorganisms grown on the plate. A significant relationship between the number of antibiotic-resistant gut bacterial strains and the course of arthritis (acute, chronic) was revealed, and the borderline value of the number of antibiotic-resistant gut bacterial strains was determined - 5×103 CFU/g, which allows differentiating the acute course from the chronic one: in the acute course< 5×103 CFU/g, with chronic - ≥ 5×103 CFU/g.

Aim: To study the antibiotic sensitivity of strains of microorganisms isolated from patients with a purulent stage of acute pyelonephritis and located inside the erythrocytes.
Materials And Methods: In this study, a total of 15 strains of microorganisms isolated from the blood of patients with a purulent form of acute pyelonephritis were used. The bacteria were detected and identified in the blood of patients using a modern molecular genetic method, fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH), and the classical bacteriological study was done to isolate blood cultures of microorganisms.

The objective of the present study was to review the existing data on the association between Zn status and characteristics of gut microbiota in various organisms and the potential role of Zn-induced microbiota in modulating systemic effects. The existing data demonstrate a tight relationship between Zn metabolism and gut microbiota as demonstrated in Zn deficiency, supplementation, and toxicity studies. Generally, Zn was found to be a significant factor for gut bacteria biodiversity.

Obesity is associated with an increased risk of an iron deficiency; however, a synergistic relationship between iron and lipid homeostasis was also observed. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of pharmacological doses of iron supplementation on omega 3 (n-3) and omega 6 (n-6) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). Manganese (Mn) is an essential metal, which at high exposures causes neurotoxic effects and neurodegeneration. The neurotoxic effects of Mn are mediated by neuroinflammation, oxidative and endoplasmic reticulum stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and other mechanisms. Recent findings have demonstrated the potential impact of Mn overexposure on gut microbiota dysbiosis, which is known to contribute to neurodegeneration via secretion of neuroactive and proinflammatory metabolites.
