The possibility of using an oxygen-nitrous oxide mixture for prolonged hypothermic preservation of rat heart for 24 hours was investigated. A comparative analysis of restoration of functional activity of hearts in the groups of 24-hour preservation at +4°C with different gases (O, N) and gas mixtures (CO+O, NO+O, N+O, NO+N) was carried out. It was shown that the presence of oxygen in the gas mixture was the key factor for heart preservation.

This study aimed to assess the effects of the immunomodulator thymulin, a thymic peptide with anti-inflammatory effects, and peroxiredoxin 6 (Prdx6), an antioxidant enzyme with dual peroxidase and phospholipase A2 activities, on the blood‒brain barrier (BBB) condition and general health status of animals with relapsing-remitting experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), which is a model of multiple sclerosis in humans. Both thymulin and Prdx6 significantly improved the condition of the BBB, which was impaired by EAE induction, as measured by Evans blue dye accumulation, tight-junction protein loss in brain tissue, and lymphocyte infiltration through the BBB. The effect was associated with significant amelioration of EAE symptoms.

Turpentine oil, owing to the presence of 7-50 terpenes, has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, antibacterial, anticoagulant, antioxidant, and antitumor properties, which are important for medical emulsion preparation. The addition of turpentine oil to squalene emulsions can increase their effectiveness, thereby reducing the concentration of expensive and possibly deficient squalene, and increasing its stability and shelf life. In this study, squalene emulsions were obtained by adding various concentrations of turpentine oil via high-pressure homogenization, and the safety and effectiveness of the obtained emulsions were studied in vitro and in vivo.

Small non-coding and antisense RNAs are widespread in all kingdoms of life, however, the diversity of their functions in bacteria is largely unknown. Here, we study RNAs synthesised from divergent promoters located in the 3'-end of the gene, encoding transcription factor regulating hexuronate metabolism in These overlapping promoters were predicted with rather high scores, effectively bound RNA polymerase and and were capable of initiating transcription in sense and antisense directions. The genome-wide correlation between promoter scores and RNA polymerase binding and was higher for promoters located on the antisense strands of the genes, however, sense promoters within the gene were more active.

In this work, we demonstrate a new approach for interactively assessing hyperspectral data spatial structures for heterogeneity using mass spectrometry imaging. This approach is based on the visualization of the cosine distance as the similarity levels between mass spectra of a chosen region and the rest of the image (sample). Weak combined collinear magnetic fields (CMFs) composed of constant component, 60 μT and low-frequency alternating field, 100 nT, used in 40 min pretreatment, were shown to have diverse effects (alleviation/stimulation) depending on the frequency of the alternating component on respiratory burst intensity in neutrophil suspension after activation by N-formyl-Met-Leu-Phe recorded by luminol-dependent chemiluminescence. About 12.6 Hz frequency formally corresponding to ion cyclotron resonance (ICR) frequency of hydrated hydronium ion (НО ) had notable stimulating effect.

The receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) is considered to contribute to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD), mediating amyloid beta (Aβ) accumulation, mitochondrial damage, and neuroinflammation. Previously, we have synthesized small peptides corresponding to the fragments (60-76) (P1) and (60-62) (P2) of the RAGE extracellular domain, and have shown that administration of P1 fragment but not P2 results in restoration of the spatial memory and decreases the brain Aβ (1-40) level in olfactory bulbectomized (OBX) mice demonstrating main features of Alzheimer's type neurodegeneration. In the present study, we have investigated the supposed mechanism of the therapeutic efficacy of P1 RAGE fragment and compared it to P2 short fragment.
