Atherosclerosis (AS) is a prevalent cardiovascular condition, and the growth and phenotypic switch of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) play a crucial role in its development. Studies have revealed that the activation of certain transcription factors and signaling pathways can trigger these cellular changes. Consequently, targeting these pathways and pivotal molecules has emerged as a promising strategy for AS treatment.

The risk for developing cardiovascular diseases dramatically increases in older individuals, and aging vasculature plays a crucial role in determining their morbidity and mortality. Aging disrupts endothelial balance between vasodilators and vasoconstrictors, impairing function and promoting pathological vascular remodeling. In this Review, we discuss the impact of key and emerging molecular pathways that transduce aberrant inflammatory signals (i.

Purpose: To evaluate the cost utility of a 9-month supervised exercise program for patients with metastatic breast cancer (mBC), compared with control (usual care, supplemented with general activity advice and an activity tracker). Evidence on the cost-effectiveness of exercise for patients with mBC is essential for implementation in clinical practice and is currently lacking.
Methods: A cost-utility analysis was performed alongside the multinational PREFERABLE-EFFECT randomized controlled trial, conducted in 8 centers across Europe and Australia.

Sociosexual preference is critical for reproduction and survival. However, neural mechanisms encoding social decisions on sex preference remain unclear. In this study, we show that both male and female mice exhibit female preference but shift to male preference when facing survival threats; their preference is mediated by the dimorphic changes in the excitability of ventral tegmental area dopaminergic (VTA) neurons.

The PAK (p21-activated kinases) family is a class of intracellular signal transduction protein kinases that regulate various cellular functions, mainly through their interactions with small GTP enzymes. PAK1 and PAK2 in the PAK kinase family are key signal transduction molecules that play important roles in various biological processes, including morphological changes, migration, proliferation, and apoptosis, and are involved in the progression of many diseases. Abnormal expression or dysregulation of PAK1 and PAK2 may be associated with several diseases, including cancer, neurological diseases, etc.

Background: Patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) are particularly susceptible to contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI). However, few studies have evaluated CA-AKI stages in patients with DM following elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with iodixanol.
Methods: Patients with DM who underwent elective PCI in 8 Chinese hospitals from May 2020 to November 2021 were prospectively enrolled in the Iodixanol-Acute Kidney Injury Registry (No.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), such as atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases, heart failure (HF), and acute coronary syndrome, represent a significant threat to global health and impose considerable socioeconomic burdens. The intricate pathogenesis of CVD involves various regulatory mechanisms, among which microRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as critical posttranscriptional regulators. In particular, miR-155 has demonstrated differential expression patterns across a spectrum of CVD and is implicated in the etiology and progression of arterial disorders.

Dopamine (DA) in the striatum is vital for motor and cognitive behaviors. Midbrain dopaminergic neurons generate both tonic and phasic action potential (AP) firing patterns in behavior mice. Besides AP numbers, whether and how different AP firing patterns per se modulate DA release remain largely unknown.

Unlabelled: Abnormal regional variations in electrical and calcium homeostasis properties have been implicated in catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardias (CPVT) attributable to abnormal RyR2-mediated store Ca release, but their underlying mechanism have not been well explored in intact hearts.
Methods: We performed in vivo and ex vivo studies including high throughput mapping of Ca transients (CaT) and transmembrane voltage (V) in murine wild-type (WT) and heterozygous -R2474S/+ hearts, before and during isoprenaline (ISO) challenge.
Results: ISO-challenged -R2474S/+ showed increased incidence of arrhythmia accompanied by abnormal Ca transients compared to WT.

Background: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) represents a neuroinflammatory autoimmune disease characterized by the predominance of circulating T cell subsets with proinflammatory characteristics and increased central nervous system (CNS)-homing potential. Substantial evidence confirms various beneficial effects of chronic exercise interventions in MS, but it is unknown how long-term multi-modal intense exercise affects MS-associated lymphocytes that are commonly targeted by medication in persons with relapsing remitting MS (pwRRMS).
Methods: A total of 45 participants with defined RRMS were randomized to either the exercise (n = 22) or passive waitlist-control group (n = 23).

Background: The decline in daily living abilities (ADL) among older adults is a notable predictor of depressive symptoms and the occurrence of disease. However, the effects of changes in ADL disability on the progression of depression have not been extensively studied.
Objective: This research aims to examine the relationship between current ADL disability and depression in individuals aged 45 and older, as well as to explore how ADL disability influences the progression of depression in later life within China.

Background: Atherosclerosis, a complex chronic vascular disorder with multifactorial etiology, stands as the primary culprit behind consequential cardiovascular events, imposing a substantial societal and economic burden. Nevertheless, our current understanding of its pathogenesis remains imprecise. In this investigation, our objective is to establish computational models elucidating molecular-level markers associated with atherosclerosis.

Background And Purpose: Diabetic wounds are serious chronic complications of diabetes and can lead to amputation and death. Although considerable progress has been made in drugs and materials for treating it, it's still an urgent clinical problem as the materials and drugs have potential therapeutic drawbacks, such as low delivery efficiency and poor tissue permeability. To promote diabetic wound healing, a composite of thonningianin A (TA)-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (CNPS) encapsulated by a Pluronic F-127 (PF-127) hydrogel (TA-CNPS-PF) was developed in this study.

Aims: Aberrant cardiac fibrosis, defined as excessive production and deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM), is mediated by myofibroblasts. ECM-producing myofibroblasts are primarily derived from resident fibroblasts during cardiac fibrosis. The mechanism underlying fibroblast-myofibroblast transition is not fully understood.

When considering the acute effects of different modalities of endurance training on cellular immune components, the matching of duration and mean intensity and the consideration of sex-dependent differences have received less attention so far. The aim of the study was to compare the effects of interval running (IR) vs. continuous running (CR) on circulating immune cells and cellular immune inflammation markers.
