The currently available antiviral treatments (Peg-Interferon-α and Nucleos(t)ide Analogues, NA) for chronic hepatitis B (CHB) achieve a functional cure (serum HBsAg and HDV-DNA clearance) of HBV infection in a limited number of patients. Nevertheless, the continuous pharmacological suppression of viral replication by NA halts liver disease progression lowering the risk of HCC development and improving the survival. In the near future, to fully exploit the potential of old and new drugs for HBV treatment a personalized approach to the patients will be required according to an accurate definition of their virologic, immunologic and clinical profile.

The newly described SARS-CoV-2 respiratory virus is now righteously presenting as an ominous threat, based on the speed with which it originated a zoonosis from bats; advancing at a similar rate, the virus has placed mankind before a pandemic, with an infection toll of some 431 million, and a lethality of 5,9 million (as of February 25, 2022). The size of the harm that this agent can unleash against us is appallingly wide, from brain ischemia to foot chilblain, passing by heart massive infarction. Designing a possible response, we reappraised the well-known equation depression-inflammation, and tested the hypothesis that an upgraded ease-of-mind might help reduce the host's hospitality towards SARS-CoV-2.

Objectives: To stratify patients with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) based on brain MRI-derived volumetric features using unsupervised machine learning.
Methods: The 3-T brain MRIs of relapsing-remitting pwMS including 3D-T1w and FLAIR-T2w sequences were retrospectively collected, along with Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) scores and long-term (10 ± 2 years) clinical outcomes (EDSS, cognition, and progressive course). From the MRIs, volumes of demyelinating lesions and 116 atlas-defined gray matter regions were automatically segmented and expressed as z-scores referenced to external populations.

This is a prospective and comparative study including 76 consecutive patients performing EUS-FNB for pancreatic and extrapancreatic solid lesions, randomized by alternate allocation to macroscopic on-site evaluation (MOSE) (40 patients) or to a conventional technique (40 patients), with three passes each. MOSE samples were differentiated into score 0: no visible material, score 1: only necrotic or haematic material, score 2: white core tissue ≤ 2 mm, or score 3: white core tissue > 2 mm. Uveal melanoma is the most common primary intraocular malignancy. The aim of this retrospective study was to report the results after ruthenium-106 (Ru-106) plaque brachytherapy for uveal melanoma in terms of tumor control, visual acuity, radiation-related complications, tumor recurrence, metastases, and patients' survival rate during 4 years' follow-up. A total of 355 eyes from 355 patients have been treated with Ru-106 plaque brachytherapy for uveal melanoma between February 2011 and March 2020.

APEH is a ubiquitous and cytosolic serine protease belonging to the prolyl oligopeptidase (POP) family, playing a critical role in the processes of degradation of proteins through both exo- and endopeptidase events. Endopeptidase activity has been associated with protein oxidation; however, the actual mechanisms have yet to be elucidated. We show that a synthetic fragment of GDF11 spanning the region 48-64 acquires sensitivity to the endopeptidase activity of APEH only when the methionines are transformed into the corresponding sulphoxide derivatives.

A biodegradable engineered nanoplatform combining anti-angiogenic activity and targeting of cancer cells to improve the anticancer activity of docetaxel (DTX) is here proposed. Indeed, we have developed biodegradable nanoparticles (NPs) of poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(ε-caprolactone), exposing on the surface both folate motifs (Fol) for recognition in cells overexpressing Folate receptor-α (FRα) and the anti-angiogenic hexapeptide aFLT1. NPs showed a size around 100 nm, the exposure of 60% of Fol moieties on the surface, and the ability to entrap DTX and sustain its release with time.

Traditional approach for predicting coronary artery disease (CAD) is based on demographic data, symptoms such as chest pain and dyspnea, and comorbidity related to cardiovascular diseases. Usually, these variables are analyzed by logistic regression to quantifying their relationship with the outcome; nevertheless, their predictive value is limited.
