Heterofunctionalized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were obtained in a one pot reaction of gold precursor with cationic carbosilane dendrons (first to third generations, 1-3G) and (polyethylene)glycol (PEG) ligands in the presence of a reducing agent. The final dendron/PEG proportion on AuNPs depends on the initial dendron/PEG ratio (3/1, 1/1, 1/3) and dendron generation. Excessive inflammation and reduced angiogenesis are two major obstacles in burn wound healing and skin regeneration. Thymoquinone (TQ) is a highly perspective chemotherapeutic agent against gliomas and glioblastomas because of its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and its selective cytotoxicity for glioblastoma cells compared to primary astrocytes. Here, we tested the hypothesis that TQ-induced mild oxidative stress provokes C6 glioma cell apoptosis through redox-dependent alteration of MAPK proteins. We showed that low concentrations of TQ (20-50 μM) promoted cell-cycle arrest and induced hydrogen peroxide generation as a result of NADH-quinone oxidoreductase 1-catalyzed two-electron reduction of this quinone.

Nanoflowers - new nanostructures - have aroused the interest of scientists due to the topographic features of nanolayers, the special location of which allows a higher surface-to-volume ratio compared to classic spherical nanoparticles, which significantly increases the efficiency of surface reactions for nanoflowers. The main purpose of these types of nanomaterials is their use as enzyme stabilizers. To facilitate the functioning of enzymes under different conditions, organic-inorganic hybrid nanomaterials have been developed, the name of which indicates that all components of inorganic nanoparticles are associated with organic materials.

The past 20 years have resulted in unprecedented progress in understanding brain energy metabolism and its role in health and disease. In this review, which was initiated at the 14th International Society for Neurochemistry Advanced School, we address the basic concepts of brain energy metabolism and approach the question of why the brain has high energy expenditure. Our review illustrates that the vertebrate brain has a high need for energy because of the high number of neurons and the need to maintain a delicate interplay between energy metabolism, neurotransmission, and plasticity.

2-Hexadecenal (2HD) formation in the organism occurs via irreversible enzymatic degradation of sphingosine-1-phosphate or nonenzymatic γ-, UV-, or HOCl-induced destruction of a number of sphingolipids including S1P. The current research focuses on the study of 2HD effects on C6 glioma cells growth. The results obtained show that 2HD causes a dose-dependent decrease in proliferative and mitotic indices.

To mimic the natural structure of tissue extracellular matrix, a novel silk fibroin (SF)/hyaluronic acid (HA)/sodium alginate (SA) composite scaffold (92% in porosity) was prepared by freeze-drying. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectra indicated interactions among SF, HA, and SA molecules. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the prepared SF/HA/SA scaffold had soft, elastic characteristics, with an average pore diameter of 93 μm.
