The brain is a complex non-equilibrium system capable of expressing many different dynamics as well as the transitions between them. We hypothesized that the level of non-equilibrium can serve as a signature of a given brain state, which was quantified using the arrow of time (the level of irreversibility). Using this thermodynamic framework, the irreversibility of emergent cortical activity was quantified from local field potential recordings in male Lister-hooded rats at different anesthesia levels and during the sleep-wake cycle.

The International Clinical Advisory Committee reviewed advances in our understanding of the clinicopathologic and biologic features of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma, B-cell prolymphocytic leukaemia, and mantle cell lymphoma since the revised 4th edition of the WHO Classification of Tumours of the Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues. Discussions amongst pathologists, clinicians, and molecular geneticists around these diseases focussed on incorporating new knowledge into the next classification system. In this manuscript, we review these disease entities and incorporate results of these deliberations, including advances in our understanding of early lesions and transformation.

Comorbidity of substance use disorders (SUD) and severe mental illness (SMI) is highly frequent in patients, the most common diagnoses being schizophrenia (SZ), bipolar disorder (BD) and major depressive disorder (MDD). Since comorbidity has its own clinical features, and neurocognitive functioning is not always similar to psychiatric symptoms the present study explores the cognitive performance of patients with dual disorders. Psychosocial hardships associated with the COVID-19 pandemic led many individuals to suffer adverse mental health consequences, however, others show no negative effects. We hypothesized that the electroencephalographic (EEG) response to transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) could serve as a toy-model of an individual's capacity to resist psychological stress, in this case linked to the COVID-19 pandemic. This research has demonstrated that non-conscious dynamics tend to be more synchronous than in conscious states, which are more asynchronous.
