This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of cryopreserved amniotic membrane (AM) grafts in chronic wound healing, including the mean percentage of wound closure per one AM application, and to determine whether the healing efficiency differs between AM grafts obtained from different placentas. A retrospective study analyzing inter-placental differences in healing capacity and mean wound closure after the application of 96 AM grafts prepared from nine placentas. Only the placentas from which the AM grafts were applied to patients suffering from long-lasting non-healing wounds successfully healed by AM treatment were included.

Pancreatic cancer has an incidence that almost matches its mortality. Only a small number of risk factors and 33 susceptibility loci have been identified. so Moreover, the relative rarity of pancreatic cancer poses significant hurdles for research aimed at increasing our knowledge of the genetic mechanisms contributing to the disease.

Endometrial cancer (EC) is the most common gynecological malignancy in developed countries. The present study aimed to determine the frequency of germline pathogenic variants (PV) in patients with EC. In this multicenter retrospective cohort study, germline genetic testing (GGT) was performed in 527 patients with EC using a next generation sequencing panel targeting 226 genes, including 5 Lynch syndrome (LS) and 14 hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) predisposition genes, and 207 candidate predisposition genes.

The , , and genes encode for the nuclear MRN protein complex, which senses the DNA double strand breaks and initiates the DNA repair. The MRN complex also participates in the activation of ATM kinase, which coordinates DNA repair with the p53-dependent cell cycle checkpoint arrest. Carriers of homozygous germline pathogenic variants in the MRN complex genes or compound heterozygotes develop phenotypically distinct rare autosomal recessive syndromes characterized by chromosomal instability and neurological symptoms.

Alport syndrome (AS) is a hereditary kidney disease caused by pathogenic variants in and genes with autosomal recessive or autosomal dominant transmission or in the gene with X-linked inheritance. Digenic inheritance was also described. Clinically it is associated with microscopic hematuria, followed by proteinuria and chronic renal insufficiency with end-stage renal disease in young adults.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) comprise a large group of small noncoding RNAs within a heterogeneous entity of noncoding RNAs, forming potent functional tools regulating the crucial biological processes within cells and the body. Cell-free miRNAs have become one of the novel promising diagnostic, predictive, and prognostic biomarkers for various diseases extensively investigated in recent years. This is due to their presence within extracellular fractions of various body fluids suggesting their potential as noninvasive "liquid biopsy" in case of their dysregulated expression.

MUC13, a transmembrane mucin glycoprotein, is overexpressed in colorectal cancer (CRC), however, its regulation and functions are not fully understood. Stimuli-responsive copolymers are of great interest for targeted drug delivery. This study reports on a controllable post-polymerization quaternization with 2-bromomethyl-4-fluorophenylboronic acid of the poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (P4VP) block of a common poly(styrene)--poly(4-vinyl pyridine)--poly(ethylene oxide) (SVE) triblock terpolymer in order to achieve a selective responsivity to various diols. For this purpose, a reproducible method was established for P4VP block quaternization at a defined ratio, confirming the reaction yield by B, H NMR.

In the present review we addressed the determination of DNA damage induced by small-molecule carcinogens, considered their persistence in DNA and mutagenicity in in vitro and in vivo systems over a period of 30 years. The review spans from the investigation of the role of DNA damage in the cascade of chemical carcinogenesis. In the nineties, this concept evolved into the biomonitoring studies comprising multiple biomarkers that not only reflected DNA/chromosomal damage, but also the potential of the organism for biotransformation/elimination of various xenobiotics.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) mainly stems from liver cirrhosis and its genetic predisposition is believed to be rare. However, two recent studies describe pathogenic/likely pathogenic germline variants (PV) in cancer-predisposition genes (CPG). Background: Mechanistic data indicate the benefit of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) produced by gut microbial fermentation of fiber on colorectal cancer, but direct epidemiologic evidence is limited. A recent study identified SNPs for two SCFA traits (fecal propionate and butyrate-producing microbiome pathway PWY-5022) in Europeans and showed metabolic benefits.
Methods: We conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis of the genetic instruments for the two SCFA traits (three SNPs for fecal propionate and nine for PWY-5022) in relation to colorectal cancer risk in three large European genetic consortia of 58,131 colorectal cancer cases and 67,347 controls.
