Hypericum is a large genus that includes more than 500 species of pharmacological, ecological and conservation value. Springtails (Collembola) inhabit soils from the Arctic to the Antarctic and comprise an estimated ~32% of all terrestrial arthropods on Earth. Here, we present a global, spatially-explicit database on springtail communities that includes 249,912 occurrences from 44,999 samples and 2,990 sites. These data are mainly raw sample-level records at the species level collected predominantly from private archives of the authors that were quality-controlled and taxonomically-standardised.

Isoflavonoids are mostly produced by legumes although little is known about why and how legumes are able to regulate the biosynthesis of these particular compounds. The LORE1 mutation of the gene encoding the transcription factor MYB36 allowed the identification of this gene as a regulator of isoflavonoid biosynthesis in Lotus japonicus plants.

Gene and domain shuffling in lytic cassettes of spp. bacteriophages.

Unlabelled: The genomes of and bacteriophages were analysed for gene shuffling in the lytic cassettes of bacteriophages infecting. It was found that enterococcal bacteriophages could be classified into well-defined groups based on the size of their genomes and each size group had its own conserved gene composition of lytic cassettes. Enterococcal bacteriophages use a relatively broad spectrum of holins and endolysins with variable cell-wall binding (CWB) and catalytic domains, and most of them utilise a lytic cassette with more than two genes.

The use of biological indicators in a bioassessment approach is important for inferences of anthropogenic stress in routine monitoring programs. One of the primary assumptions of bioassessment is that biological indicators observed at specific sampling sites will allow for inferences of local environmental quality; however, this assumption requires a reliable understanding of dispersal processes, which is particularly relevant in river systems due to their dendritic network. Inter-stream dispersal between different points of the river network could bias bioassessment, especially for highly mobile organisms like fish.

The subsurface mine environments characterized by high levels of toxic metals and low nutrient availability represent an extreme threat to bacterial persistence. In recent study, the genomic analysis of the Acinetobacter johnsonii strain RB2-047 isolated from the Rozália Gold Mine in Slovakia was performed. As expected, the studied isolate showed a high level of heavy metal tolerance (minimum inhibitory concentrations were 500 mg/L for copper and nickel, 1,500 mg/L for lead, and 250 mg/L for zinc).

DNA methylation, one of the most studied epigenetic mechanisms, when present in the promoter region of genes, causes inhibition of gene expression, and conversely, hypomethylation of these regions enables gene expression. DNA methylation is susceptible to nutritional and environmental influences, and undesirable alterations in methylation patterns manifested in changes in the expression of relevant genes can lead to pathological consequences. In the present work, we studied the methylation status of the bovine GSTP1 gene under the influence of pesticide Mospilan 20SP alone and in combination with pesticide Orius 25EW in in vitro proliferating bovine lymphocytes.

K1, was isolated.

  • Iridium complexes (2 and 4) demonstrated higher catalytic activity and greater lipophilicity compared to ruthenium complexes (1 and 3), while also showing minimal interaction with reduced glutathione.
  • Biological analyses revealed that complexes 2 and 4 were selective against human fibroblasts and showed moderate inhibition of cancer cell activity, particularly complex 4, indicating potential for development as new anticancer drugs, especially for cisplatin-resistant tumors.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial activity, quality and stability of creams (at 1 % concentration) prepared with synthesized silver(I) complexes: [Ag(Nam)]NO·HO ( AgNam), [Ag(HGly)](NO) (AgGly) (Nam - nicotin-amide, Gly - glycine) and silver(I) sulfadiazine (AgSD), which is commercially available. Antibacterial activity was evaluated by agar well diffusion method and in case. The pure silver(I) complexes as well as all three tested creams loaded with AgGly, AgSD and AgNam showed antibacterial potential.
