During the Pleistocene-Holocene transition, the dominant mammoth steppe ecosystem across northern Eurasia vanished, in parallel with megafauna extinctions. However, plant extinction patterns are rarely detected due to lack of identifiable fossil records. Here, we introduce a method for detection of plant taxa loss at regional (extirpation) to potentially global scale (extinction) and their causes, as determined from ancient plant DNA metabarcoding in sediment cores (sedaDNA) from lakes in Siberia and Alaska over the past 28,000 years.

The degradation of surfaces and its possible dependence on shape, size, and elemental composition of plastic particles were subjected. The review highlights the relationship between the molecular organization of the light-harvesting complex of photosystem II (LHCII) and sunlight utilization by higher plants. The molecular form of LHCII switches rapidly and reversibly during diurnal changes of light intensity, from low ( 10) to high [ 1,000 μmol(photon) m s], so the sensitivity of LHCII to light may control the balance between light harvesting and photoprotection state. Our understanding and concept of this mechanism are based on the knowledge of the structure and photophysics of different LHCII molecular forms: monomer, dimer, trimer, and aggregate.

The paper presents the possibility of applying ultrasonic technology for inactivation of mesophilic aerobic microorganisms, lactic acid bacteria, coliform bacteria, and yeast with the maintenance of the chemical and structural properties of tomato juice. In our previous work, we discussed the emergence of the dual fluorescence phenomenon in selected compounds from the group of 1,3,4-thiadiazoles. The results obtained in a number of experimental studies, supported by [TD]DFT calculations, clearly indicated that the phenomenon of dual fluorescence stemmed from an overlap of several factors, including the correct conformation of the analyzed molecule and, very significantly in this context, aggregation effects. Where those two conditions were met, we could observe the phenomenon of intermolecular charge transfer (CT) and the emergence of electronic states responsible for long wave emissions.

Compounds belonging to the group of 5-substituted 4-(1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl) benzene-1,3-diols exhibit a broad spectrum of biological activity, including antibacterial, antifungal, and anticancer properties. The mechanism of the antifungal activity of compounds from this group has not been described to date. Among the large group of 5-substituted 4-(1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl) benzene-1,3-diol derivatives, the compound 4-(5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-yl) benzene-1,3-diol, abbreviated as C1, was revealed to be one of the most active agents against pathogenic fungi, simultaneously with the lowest toxicity to human cells.
