Blood orange consumption presents potential health benefits and may modulate epigenetic mechanisms such as microRNAs (miRNAs) expression. MiRNAs are non-coding RNAs responsible for post-transcriptional gene regulation, and these molecules can also be used as biomarkers in body fluids. This study was designed to investigate the effect of chronic blood orange juice (BOJ) intake on the inflammatory response and miRNA expression profile in plasma and blood cells in overweight women.

Amoebiasis is a protozoan disease caused by Entamoeba histolytica, and presents a geographic distribution of worldwide amplitude, high incidence, sometimes accompanied by severe clinical manifestations such as amoebic colitis and Amoebic Liver Abscess (ALA), remaining as a public health problem in developing countries. Entamoeba dispar is another species of amoeba that infects approximately 12% of the world's population, and it has previously been classified as noninvasive. However, E.

Amebiasis is the most severe protozoan infection affecting the human intestine, and the second leading cause of death among parasitic diseases. The mechanisms of amoebic virulence factors acquisition are poorly understood, and there are few studies showing the interaction between Entamoeba dispar and bacteria. Salmonella enterica subsp.

Leishmaniasis is a group of diseases caused by several species of protozoa. It is a major public health concern in its visceral form, accounting annually for 59,000 deaths, and an estimated 12 million infected patients per year. The importance of VL resides not only in its high incidence and wide distribution but also in the possibility of the disease progressing to the severe and lethal forms, especially in children and immunosuppressed individuals, when associated with malnutrition and concomitant infections.

Cooled semen has been used routinely to prolong sperm viability until artificial insemination time. However, spermatozoa are subjected to oxidative stress. The aim of the present work was to investigate the protective and antioxidant effect of the milk proteins lactoferrin (Lf) and caseinate added to equine semen cooling extenders.

The genus Fusobacterium belongs to the Fusobacteriaceae family and is a Gram-negative obligate anaerobic bacterium found in the human oral microbiota. Even that Fusobacterium nucleatum cannot grow under aerobic conditions, they may exhibit aerotolerance as an adaptive response which could figure as an important virulence factor, during the stages of infection, when these anaerobes are shifted to aerobic conditions. In this regard, little is known about bacterial oxidative stress adaptive response and the influence of this adaptation on the host-bacteria relationship.
