A sensor system based on a piezoelectric resonator with a lateral electric field in the frequency range 6-7 MHz of the electric field for virus detection is described. Through use of the transmissible virus causing gastroenteritis in pigs and specific antibodies, the possibility of detecting the virus in suspension in real time was determined. It was found that the frequency dependence of the real and imaginary parts of the electrical impedance of such a resonator loaded with a virus suspension changes significantly after the addition of specific antibodies to the suspension.

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a powerful technique for biosensing. However, SERS analysis has several concerns: the signal is limited by a number of molecules and the area of the plasmonic substrate in the laser hotspot, and quantitative analysis in a low-volume droplet is confusing due to the change of concentration during quick drying. The effect of oil sludge and zinc, present in soil both separately and as a mixture on the physiological and biochemical parameters of Miscanthus × giganteus plant was examined in a pot experiment. The opposite effect of pollutants on the accumulation of plant biomass was established: in comparison with uncontaminated control the oil sludge increased, and Zn reduced the root and shoot biomass. Oil sludge had an inhibitory effect on the plant photosynthetic apparatus, which intensified in the presence of Zn.

Detection and study of biologically active compounds seems a promising area of research in cancer diagnostics and therapies. The glycoprotein and polysaccharide fractions showing high cytotoxicity towards several human and animal cancer cell lines: A549, Hep-2, HeLa, С6 and SPEV-2 were isolated from basidiomycete Lentinus edodes vegetative mycelium and fruiting body and further characterized. It was found that water-soluble glycoprotein fractions caused the most significant, 70-100% inhibition of metabolic activity of SPЕV-2, А549 and С6 cell lines.

Metalloproteins have many different functions such as storage and transport of proteins, enzymes, signal transduction proteins, etc. Herein, for a selection of gold nanoparticles differing in shape, size, charge, and surface modification, the binding behavior in human serum was assessed with respect to metal-containing proteins. Our results based on sector-field ICP-MS measurements and a simple calculation algorithm indicate the possible involvement of proteins, incorporating Cu and Fe, in the formation of the biomolecular layer around the particle surface.

We studied the effects of new chemically synthesized selenium (Se) nanocomposites (NCs) based on natural polysaccharide matrices arabinogalactan (AG), starch (ST), and kappa-carrageenan (CAR) on the viability of phytopathogen , rhizospheric bacteria, and potato productivity in the field experiment. Using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), it was shown that the nanocomposites contained nanoparticles varying from 20 to 180 nm in size depending on the type of NC.
