Astrocytes serve many functions in the brain related to maintaining nerve tissue homeostasis and regulating neuronal function, including synaptic transmission. It is assumed that astrocytes are crucial players in determining the physiological or pathological outcome of the brain aging process and the development of neurodegenerative diseases. Therefore, studies on the peculiarities of astrocyte physiology and interastrocytic signaling during aging are of utmost importance.

Interval stability is a novel method for the study of complex dynamical systems, allowing for the estimation of their stability to strong perturbations. This method describes how large perturbation should be to disrupt the stable dynamical regime of the system (attractor). In our work, interval stability is used for the first time to study the properties of a real natural system: to analyze the stability of the earth's climate system during the last 2.

How do living systems process information? The search for an answer to this question is ongoing. We have developed an intelligent video analytics system. The process of the formation of detectors for content-based image retrieval aimed at detecting objects of various types simulates the operation of the structural and functional modules for image processing in living systems.

The dynamics of epidemics depend on how people's behavior changes during an outbreak. At the beginning of the epidemic, people do not know about the virus, then, after the outbreak of epidemics and alarm, they begin to comply with the restrictions and the spreading of epidemics may decline. Over time, some people get tired/frustrated by the restrictions and stop following them (exhaustion), especially if the number of new cases drops down.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is based on the production of the cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS) by light irradiation of a photosensitizer dye in the presence of molecular oxygen. Along with photochemical ROS production, it becomes evident that PDT induces massive secondary production of ROS which is registered long after the irradiation is completed. We created cell lines of human epidermoid carcinoma with the cytoplasmic and mitochondrial localization of protein sensor HyPer sensitive to hydrogen peroxide to compare its concentration in two cellular compartments.

The excitation and effective selection of modes at high harmonics of the cyclotron frequency are experimentally demonstrated using a delayed feedback into the gyrotron. The operation at the third cyclotron harmonic at the frequency of 40.5 GHz with the output power of 3 kW and efficiency 8% is observed in a continuous wave gyrotron with an oil-cooled magnet with a field of 0.

This paper presents a comparison of simple self-consistent theory data and experimental results aimed to study the influence of the anode voltage on the frequency of the subterahertz gyrotron with the goal of frequency stabilization. Numerical simulations of the electron beam formation and beam-wave interaction in a 0.26 THz gyrotron are performed.

A new mechanism for the formation and destruction of giant water clusters (ten to hundreds of micrometers) is proposed. Our earlier hypothesis was that the clusters are associates of liquid-crystal spheres (LCS), each of which is formed around a seed particle, a microcrystal of sodium chloride. In this study, we show that the ingress of LCSs into water from the surrounding air is highly likely.

Many state-of-the-art fundamental and industrial projects need the use of terahertz radiation with high power and small linewidth. Gyrotrons as radiation sources provide the desired level of power in the sub-THz and THz frequency range, but have substantial free-running frequency fluctuations of the order of 10. Here, we demonstrate that the precise frequency stability of a high-power sub-THz gyrotron can be achieved by a phase-lock loop in the anode voltage control.

Plasma of electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) discharge sustained by millimeter wave radiation is widely used for production of ion beams of different kind. The main trend in ECR ion sources development nowadays is an increase of frequency and power of microwave heating. The most advanced systems use gyrotrons in 24-60 GHz frequency range.
