Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Wild vegetable mixes used in southern Europe are interesting from the pharmacological point of view, as they contain many species which have considerable nutritional and medicinal value, but some are potentially toxic to humans. Although many ethnobotanical studies document the rich tradition of using wild vegetables at the turn of the 20th and 21st century in the Mediterranean region, there is a dearth of older historical studies which could help us to assess the extent of Traditional Knowledge loss.

The field studies on the residue levels of the fungicides and insecticides used in commercial raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) plantation have been performed. Screening of biopolymeric gel beads containing Silver NanoParticles (Ag-NPs) stabilized in Guar Gum Alkyl Amine (GGAA) and Ciprofloxacin (Cip) was carried out in order to obtain a novel nanocomposite with controlled release profile of both antimicrobians. The selected matrix composed of Alginate/High Methoxyl Pectin (HMP)/GGAA (4:4:1) was able to co-incorporate Ag-NPs and Cip with encapsulation efficiency higher than 70%. Tumor hypoxia is one main biological factor that drives resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The proposed method determines the activity of cholesterol esterase (CEH) and takes advantage of its ability to catalyze the hydrolysis of cholesterol esters naturally present in human serum. The assay is based on Allain's method of spectrophotometric determination of cholesterol by means of cholesterol oxidase, peroxidase, but using 3,5-dichloro-dihydroxybenzenesulfonic acid (DHBS) as phenolic chromogen and human serum as a source of substrate for the CEH as a novelty. Furthermore, it is characterized by low costs and high precision.
