After 10 weeks of feeding C57BL/6J mice with a normal diet (ND) or a high-fat diet (HFD), a 7-week intervention with milk fat and whole milk was conducted to assess their long-term effects on host blood lipid levels. The results showed that milk fat and whole milk did not significantly elevate low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in either ND- or HFD-fed mice. In ND mice, milk fat and whole milk improved gut microbiota diversity and Amplicon Sequence Variants.

Article Synopsis
  • Asthenozoospermia (AZS) is a common cause of male infertility due to low sperm motility, where recent research has looked at how the microecology of the male reproductive system may affect reproductive health, but connections between seminal microecology and infertility are still uncertain.
  • The study utilized advanced sequencing and analysis to examine the microbial communities and metabolites in the semen of AZS patients, identifying significant differences in microbial composition across varying severity levels of AZS.
  • Results showed specific bacterial genera associated with AZS that correlated with a key metabolite, hexadecanamide, which was found to enhance sperm motility through gene expression changes and upregulation of proteins beneficial for sperm function.

  • The Microbiome Protocols eBook (MPB) connects researchers by providing essential protocols for microbiome experiments and data analysis.
  • The first edition, released in 2020, included 152 well-organized protocols and received positive feedback from the scientific community.
  • Researchers are now encouraged to contribute their own protocols for the upcoming 2nd edition to help further microbiome research.

Genomic prediction (GP) based on haplotype alleles can capture quantitative trait loci (QTL) effects and increase predictive ability because the haplotypes are expected to be in linkage disequilibrium (LD) with QTL. In this study, we constructed haploblocks using LD-based and the fixed number of single nucleotide polymorphisms (fixed-SNP) methods with Illumina BovineHD chip in beef cattle. To evaluate the performance of different haplotype block partitioning methods, we constructed haploblocks based on LD thresholds (from  > 0.

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is an intestinal disease that frequently occurs in premature infants. Presently, there is no effective therapy for NEC. Therefore, the key to reduce the incidence rate of NEC is to take effective intervention measures as early as possible.

As classical MRPs, the toxic effects of furosine, pyralline, and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) in liver tissue are evaluated and the related mechanism is investigated here, and the protective effects of lactoferrin on liver injury caused by Maillard reaction products (MRPs) with furan ring are proved in vitro and in vivo. First, we detect the concentrations of furosine, pyralline, and 5-HMF in several foods using ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC). Then, the effects of the three MRPs on liver cells (HL-7702) viability, as well as liver tissue, are performed and evaluated.
