Egg quality traits are economically important in the poultry industry. To explore the genetic architecture and identify potential candidate genes, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) was performed for 13 egg quality traits using data from whole-genome sequencing of 299 Longyan Shan-ma female ducks, including 12 quantitative traits and one qualitative trait, eggshell color (ESC; white, light green, green). From estimation of pedigree genetic parameters, heritability (h) ranged from 0.

Autophagy is a highly conserved degradative process that has been linked to various functions, including defending host cells against pathogens. Although the involvement of autophagy in porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) infection has become apparent, it remains unclear whether selective autophagy plays a critical role in PCV2 restriction. Here we show that retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4), an adipokine for retinol carrier, initiates the autophagic degradation of PCV2 ORF1 protein.

Transfer RNA-derived small RNAs (tsRNAs) are novel regulatory small non-coding RNAs that have been found to modulate many life activities in recent years. However, the exact functions of tsRNAs in follicle development remain unclear. Follicle development is a remarkably complex process that follows a strict hierarchy and is strongly associated with reproductive performance in ducks.

Porcine models are increasingly recognized for their similarities to humans and have been utilized in disease modeling and organ grafting research. While extensive metabolomics studies have been conducted in swine, primarily focusing on conventional cohorts or specific animal models, the composition and functions of fecal metabolites in pigs across different age groups-particularly in the elderly-remain inadequately understood. In this study, an untargeted metabolomics approach was employed to analyze the fecal metabolomes of pigs at three distinct age stages: young (one year), middle-aged (four years), and elderly (eight years).

Porcine epidemic diarrhea has emerged as a significant threat to the global swine industry. The shedding and exposure status of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) in intensive farms is not completely understood. In this study, a total of 56,598 clinical samples collected from 256 intensive pig farms in 20 provinces in China from 2022 to 2023, were evaluated for PEDV using quantitative real-time PCR.

Yak (Bos grunniens) is the only large mammal species in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The most of the studies in yak remain confined for the main contributor of meat, which requires a good understanding of muscle growth. Matrix metalloproteinases-2 (MMP-2) and MMP-9 are widely expressed in mammal tissues they mainly degrade collagen in the extracellular matrix for muscle development.

(1) Background: Mengshan cattle from the Yimeng mountainous region in China stand out as a unique genetic resource, known for their adaptive traits and environmental resilience. However, these cattle are currently endangered and comprehensive genomic characterization remains largely unexplored. This study aims to address this gap by investigating the genomic features and selection signals in Mengshan cattle.

The gene of () is a coding gene for the ATP-binding transporter-associated protein with strong pathogenicity. In order to reveal the effect of the gene on the virulence of serotype 2, a wild-type strain of TJS75, isolated from fattening pigs' brain tissue samples, was used as a parent strain, and a knockout gene (Δ) and complementary strain (CΔ) were successfully constructed via homologous recombination technology. The biological characteristics of TJS75, Δ and CΔ were compared and analyzed through growth curves, biochemical characteristics, hemolysis characteristics, cell infection tests and pathogenicity tests on BALB/c mice.

Probiotics-induced feed fermentation can improve the composition of microbiota, leading to benefits in pig production. However, the influence of probiotics-driven feed fermentation on pollution reduction is limited. This study aimed to analyze the impact of Weissella-based feed fermentation on the chemical characteristics, changes in microbial abundance, and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs).

Non-contact measurement based on the 3D reconstruction of sheep bodies can alleviate the stress response in sheep during manual measurement of body dimensions. However, data collection is easily affected by environmental factors and noise, which is not conducive to practical production needs. To address this issue, this study proposes a non-contact data acquisition system and a 3D point cloud reconstruction method for sheep bodies.

Soil aggregates organic matter (SAOM) is composed of free particulate organic matter (fPOM), intra-aggregate particulate organic matter (iPOM), and mineral-associated organic matter (mSOM), which are major antibiotic sorbents that play a significant role in the soil organic matter (SOM) turnover process. To date, the oxytetracycline (OTC) sorption and desorption behavior and mechanisms on SAOM have not been contrastively analyzed. SAOM organic components have been used to study scientific problems and to determine their influence on the fate and migration of OTC among the SOM turnover process.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is one of the most economically devastating infectious diseases of pigs globally. The pathogen, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), is an enveloped positive-stranded RNA virus, which is considered to be the key triggers for the activation of effective innate immunity through pattern recognition receptor (PRR)-dependent signaling pathways. Toll-like receptors (TLRs), RIG-I-like receptors (RLRs), C-type lectin receptors (CLRs), NOD-like receptors (NLRs) and Cytoplasmic DNA receptors (CDRs) are used as PRRs to identify distinct but overlapping microbial components.

The hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis plays a pivotal role in the regulation of egg production in chickens. In addition to the traditional understanding of the HPO axis, emerging research highlights the significant role of circRNAs in modulating the functions of this axis. In the study, we collected hypothalamus, pituitary, and ovarian tissues from low-yielding and high-yielding Bian chickens for transcriptome sequencing.

The Booroola fecundity mutation (FecB) in Small Tail Han sheep has been shown to enhance ovulation rates and litter sizes by affecting the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. Despite the pituitary's role in reproductive regulation, its involvement in FecB-induced ovulation remains understudied. Our study aimed to fill this gap by analyzing pituitary tissues from FecB homozygous (BB) and wild-type (WW) ewes during luteal and follicular phases using tandem mass tag-based protein quantification and the DIABLO framework for proteomic and transcriptomic data integration.
