Institute of Animal Science (IAS), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science (CAAS), Beijing, 100193, China.

We performed genome-wide CNV detection based on SNP genotyping data of 96 Chinese-native Tibetan, Dahe and Wuzhishan pigs. These pigs are particularly interesting because of their excellent adaptation to hypoxia or small body size, which facilitates the use of them as models of different human diseases in addition to valuable agricultural animals. A total of 105 CNV regions (CNVRs) were identified, encompassing 16.

Lean-type Pekin duck is a commercial breed that has been obtained through long-term selection. Investigation of the differentially expressed genes in breast muscle and skin fat at different developmental stages will contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the potential mechanisms underlying the lean-type Pekin duck phenotype. In the present study, RNA-seq was performed on breast muscle and skin fat at 2-, 4- and 6-weeks of age.

Apoptosis-like events and in vitro fertilization capacity of sex-sorted bovine sperm.

Reprod Domest Anim

Embryo Biotechnology and Reproduction Laboratory, Institute of Animal Science (IAS), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Beijing, China.

This study utilized three staining assays (Annexin V, mitochondrial membrane potential (JC-1) and TUNEL) for flow cytometric analysis of apoptosis in sex-sorted sperm from four different bulls (A, B, C and D). Correlations between sperm quality and IVF efficiency were then assessed to determine which assay provided the best prediction of IVF efficiency. The results of the Annexin V assays, as well as measures of viable sperm, early apoptosis, necrotic sperm and mitochondrial membrane potential (∆ψm) showed that the sex-sorted sperm collected from bull A significantly differed from those of the other three bulls (p < 0.

Embryo Biotechnology and Reproduction Laboratory, Institute of Animal Science (IAS),Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS),no. 2 Yuanmingyuan Western Road,Haidian District,Beijing 100193,P.R. China.

This study was designed to determine the effect of melatonin on the in vitro maturation (IVM) and developmental potential of bovine oocytes denuded of the cumulus oophorus (DOs). DOs were cultured alone (DOs) or with 10-9 M melatonin (DOs + MT), cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) were cultured without melatonin as the control. After IVM, meiosis II (MII) rates of DOs, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, apoptotic rates and parthenogenetic blastocyst rates of MII oocytes were determined.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) regulate gene expression by fully or partially binding to complementary sequences and play important roles in skeletal muscle development. However, the roles of miRNAs in embryonic breast muscle of duck are unclear. In this study, we analyzed the miRNAs profiling in embryonic breast muscle of Pekin duck at E13 (the 13(th) day of hatching), E19, and E27 by high-throughput sequencing.

Key Laboratory for Farm Animal Genetic Resources and Utilization of Ministry of Agriculture of China, Institute of Animal Science (IAS), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science (CAAS), Beijing, 100193, People's Republic of China,

Apolipoprotein E (APOE), a component of lipoproteins plays an important role in the transport and metabolism of cholesterol, and is associated with hyperlipoproteinemia and Alzheimer's disease. In order to further understand the characterization of APOE gene, the promoter of APOE gene of Landrace pigs was analyzed in the present study. The genomic structure and amino acid sequence in pigs were analyzed and found to share high similarity in those of human but low similarity in promoter region.

Effect of mouse cumulus cells on the in vitro maturation and developmental potential of bovine denuded germinal vesicle oocytes.

August 2014

Embryo Biotechnology and Reproduction Laboratory, Institute of Animal Science (IAS),Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS);No. 2 Yuanmingyuan Western Road,Haidian District,Beijing 100193,P.R. China.

We investigated the effect mouse cumulus cells (mCCs) on the in vitro maturation (IVM) and developmental potential of bovine denuded germinal vesicle oocytes (DOs). Cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs), DOs and DOs cocultured with either mCCs (DOs + mCCs) or bovine cumulus cells (bCCs; DOs + bCCs) were subjected to IVM. The meiosis II (MII) rates of DOs, glutathione (GSH) contents, zona pellucida (ZP) hardening and parthenogenetic blastocyst rates of MII oocytes were determined.

Recovery of mitochondrial function and endogenous antioxidant systems in vitrified bovine oocytes during extended in vitro culture.

Mol Reprod Dev

December 2011

Embryo Biotechnology and Reproduction Laboratory, Institute of Animal Science (IAS), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Beijing, PR China.

This study was designed to examine the recovery of mitochondrial function and endogenous antioxidant systems in vitrified oocytes during extended incubations. After 16 hr of in vitro maturation, bovine meiosis-II oocytes were vitrified, and then surviving oocytes were cultured an additional 8 hr. ATP content, ATP synthase activity, expression of ATP synthase F0 subunit 6 (ATP6) and 8 (ATP8) genes, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were investigated in the vitrified oocytes during this additional period (4 or 8 hr).
