Egg quality traits are economically important in the poultry industry. To explore the genetic architecture and identify potential candidate genes, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) was performed for 13 egg quality traits using data from whole-genome sequencing of 299 Longyan Shan-ma female ducks, including 12 quantitative traits and one qualitative trait, eggshell color (ESC; white, light green, green). From estimation of pedigree genetic parameters, heritability (h) ranged from 0.

Avian coccidiosis caused by Eimeria is a serious parasitic disease that poses a threat to the poultry industry. Currently, prevention and treatment mainly rely on the administration of anticoccidials and live oocyst vaccines. However, the prevalence of drug resistance and the inherent limitations of live vaccines have driven the development of novel vaccines.

Disease is the main reason for the use of antimicrobials in calf rearing, and antibiotics are commonly used to treat calves, including for unknown diseases. This leads to antimicrobial resistance, which is a challenge to the livestock industry and public health. Plant products containing high levels of phytochemicals may improve the immunity and resistance of calves against infections, thereby reducing the use of antimicrobials.

Hair follicle development in Tan sheep differs significantly between the birth and Er-mao periods, but the underlying molecular mechanism is still unclear. We profiled the skin transcriptomes of Tan sheep in the birth and Er-mao periods via RNA-seq technology. The Tan sheep examined consisted of three sheep in the birth period and three sheep in the Er-mao period.

The multiple teats trait is common in many species of mammals and is considered related to lactation ability in swine. However, in Hu sheep, related gene research is still relatively limited. In this study, a genome-wide association study was used to identify genetic markers and genes related to the number of teats in the Hu sheep population, a native Chinese sheep breed.

The fertilization capacity of sex-sorted sperms is seriously decreased, which inhibits its wide application. However, little information is still available about the effect of vitamin C (VC) and lycopene (Lyc) on the fertilization capacity of sex-sorted bull sperm. In this study, the washing medium and fertilization medium of sex-sorted sperm from three bull individuals were supplemented with different concentrations of VC (0, 1 × 10 , 1 × 10 , 1 × 10 , 1 × 10 M) or Lyc (0, 1 × 10 , 1 × 10 , 1 × 10 , 1 × 10 ).

Background: Litter size is the most important reproductive trait which plays a crucial role in goat production. Therefore, improvement of litter size trait has been of increasing interest in goat industry as small improvement in litter size may lead to large profit. The recent Cashmere goat breeding program produced a high-reproductive genetic line of Arbas Cashmere goat.

Little information is available regarding the effect of melatonin on the quality and fertilization capability of sex-sorted bull sperm, and even less about the associated mechanism. Sex-sorted sperm from three individual bulls were washed twice in wash medium and incubated in a fertilization medium for 1.5 h, and each was supplemented with melatonin (0, 10 M, 10 M, 10 M, and 10 M).

The purpose of this study was to investigate the digestion and absorption of 1,3-dioleyl-2-palmitoylglycerol (OPO) and its effects on mineral absorption and intestinal flora . Fatty acids and mineral faeces were measured using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, respectively. The intestinal flora composition was assessed using high-throughput 16S rRNA sequencing.

Ruminants are the only extant mammalian group possessing bony (osseous) headgear. We obtained 221 transcriptomes from bovids and cervids and sequenced three genomes representing the only two pecoran lineages that convergently lack headgear. Comparative analyses reveal that bovid horns and cervid antlers share similar gene expression profiles and a common cellular basis developed from neural crest stem cells.

Background: China exhibits a great diversity of ecosystems and abundant cattle resources, with nearly 30 million cattle from 53 indigenous breeds reared in specific geographic regions. To explore the genetic diversity and population structure of Chinese indigenous cattle, a population genetic analysis at both the individual and population levels was conducted and the admixture analysis was performed. We genotyped 572 samples from 20 Chinese indigenous cattle breeds using GeneSeek Genomic Profiler Bovine LD (GGP-LD, 30 K) and downloaded the published data of 77 samples from 4 worldwide commercial breeds genotyped with Illumina BovineSNP50 Beadchip (SNP50, 50 K).

Principal component analysis (PCA) is a potential approach that can be applied in multiple-trait genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to explore pleiotropy, as well as increase the power of quantitative trait loci (QTL) detection. In this study, the relationship of test single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) was determined between single-trait GWAS and PCA-based GWAS. We found that the estimated pleiotropic quantitative trait nucleotides (QTNs) β * ^ were in most cases larger than the single-trait model estimations ( β 1 ^ and β 2 ^ ).

Goat farming in Pakistan depends on indigenous breeds that have adapted to specific agro-ecological conditions. Pakistan has a rich resource of goat breeds, and the genetic diversity of these goat breeds is largely unknown. In this study, genetic diversity and population structure were characterized from seven indigenous goat breeds using the goat 50K SNP chip.

Compared with the commercially available single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) chip based on the Bead Chip technology, the solution hybrid selection (SHS)-based target enrichment SNP chip is not only design-flexible, but also cost-effective for genotype sequencing. In this study, we propose to design an animal SNP chip using the SHS-based target enrichment strategy for the first time. As an update to the international collaboration on goat research, a 66 K SNP chip for cashmere goat was created from the whole-genome sequencing data of 73 individuals.

Average daily gain (ADG) is the most economically important trait in beef cattle industry. Using genome-wide association study (GWAS) approaches, previous studies have identified several causal variants within the PLAG1, NCAPG and LCORL genes for ADG in cattle. Multi-strategy GWASs were implemented in this study to improve detection and to explore the causal genes and regions.

In this study, a novel duplex nanoparticle-assisted polymerase chain reaction (nanoPCR) assay was developed to detect porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) and porcine transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV). Two pairs of primers were designed based on the conserved region within the N gene of PEDV and TGEV. In a screening of 114 clinical samples from four provinces in China for PEDV and TGEV, 48.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) can cause serious disease and even death in neonatal piglets, resulting in serious damage to the swine industry worldwide. Open reading frame 3 (ORF3) is the only accessory gene in the PEDV genome. Previous studies have indicated that PEDV vaccine strains have a partial deletion in ORF3.

Background: The Tibetan cashmere goat (Capra hircus), one of the most ancient breeds in China, has historically been a critical source of meat and cashmere production for local farmers. To adapt to the high-altitude area, extremely harsh climate, and hypoxic environment that the Tibetan cashmere goat lives in, this goat has developed distinct phenotypic traits compared to lowland breeds. However, the genetic components underlying this phenotypic adaptation remain largely unknown.
