Background: Electron beam irradiation treatment is a novel technology that uses low-dose ionizing radiation for the treatment of crops or food to enhance their quality. This study investigated the effects of electron beam irradiation on the microstructure, physicochemical properties, and bioactive compounds of areca nuts.
Results: As the irradiation dose increased, the cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin content in the areca nuts decreased significantly, whereas the polysaccharide and pectin content increased gradually.

The polysaccharides were extracted from the leaves of (MO) using an ultrasonic-assisted extraction method in this study. The main variables affecting the yield of polysaccharides extracted from (MOPS) were identified and optimized while concurrently investigating its antioxidant capacity, hypoglycemic activity, and digestive properties. The results indicated that the optimal ultrasound-assisted extraction of MOPS involved an ultrasound power of 200 W, a liquid-to-solid ratio of 25:1 (mL:g), an extraction temperature of 75 °C, and an ultrasound time of 45 min, leading to an extraction yield of (7.

Introduction: The study was aimed at evaluating the effects of areca nut extract (ANE) on the growth performance, cecal microbiota, and immunity of Wenchang chickens.
Methods: For this study, 42-day-old healthy Wenchang chickens ( = 450) with similar body weight were chosen. The animals were randomly divided into five groups, with six replicates per group and 15 chickens per replicate.

A heavy-chain antibody (VHH) library against procymidone (PRM) was constructed via immunizing camels. Through careful biopanning, seven nanobodies (Nbs) with different sequences were obtained. The variability in their performance was primarily attributed to the amino acid differences in complementarity-determining region 3 (CDR3), as analyzed by molecular docking.

Instrument-free chlorine dioxide (ClO) preservative for fruit and vegetable has gained great attention due to its convenience and safety. In this study, a series of carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) with citric acid (CA) substituents were synthesized, characterized, and further used to prepare a novel ClO slow-releasing preservative for longan. UV-Vis and FT-IR spectra revealed that CMC-CA#1-3 were successfully prepared.

(MO), which is rich in polyphenols, is a characteristic tea resource with medicinal value. In this study, a total of 45 polyphenolic components of MO, including narirutin, isoquercitrin, rutin and digallic acid, were identified by UPLC-Q-TOF/MS analysis. In addition, the gastroprotective effect of polyphenols (MOP) on ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury in rats was investigated.

Linnaeus is often used as a treatment for chills, stomach diseases, and other ailments. Piperine has many biological functions; however, its mechanism for preventing gastric mucosal damage is still unclear. The objective of this study was to investigate the preventive effects of piperine on ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury by using GES-1 cells and rats.

Piperine, an important natural product, has a good anti-inflammatory effect. However, few researchers have studied its mechanism in these pathways. The objective of this research was to evaluate the molecular mechanism underlying the anti-inflammatory responses of piperine in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.

Fenitrothion (FN) residue in food is a serious threat to public health. Consequently, a sensitive, cost-effective, and convenient immunoassay for FN urgently needs to be fabricated to safeguard human health. Herein, a nanobody-alkaline phosphatase fusion protein (Nb-ALP)-based fluorescent ELISA using red emissive carbon dots (r-CDs) anchored cobalt oxyhydroxide nanosheet (CoOOH NS) composite was developed for detecting FN.

Sugars and acids of wampee predominantly influence consumer taste preference and its commercial value. The molecular basis of taste variations is currently unknown due to the lack of a large-scale investigation of metabolites in wampee. Here, three tastes cultivars, including YF1 (sweet), YF2 (sweet-sour) and YF3 (sour) wampees with sugar-acid ratios ranging from 1.

Due to the lack of comprehensive evaluation of all metabolites in wampee, the metabolic reasons for taste differences are unclear. Here, two local varieties YF1 (sweet taste) and YF2 (sweet-sour taste), were selected for quality analysis, followed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) based widely targeted metabolomic analysis. YF1 and YF2 were clearly separated by principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis, and 449 metabolites were different between the cultivars, including 29 carbohydrates and 29 organic acids.
