The pathogenesis of insomnia is related to the dysfunction of the thalamus. Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) has proved to be effective in treating insomnia. However, whether taVNS alleviates insomnia through modulating thalamus-related functional connectivity remains unclear.

Objective: To investiage the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) at a single acupoint of Shenmen (HT7), Baihui (GV20), Sanyinjiao (SP6) and at combined acupoints of Shenmen (HT7) and Baihui (GV20) and Sanyinjiao (SP6) on the PKA/CREB and BDNF/TrkB signaling, as well as neuroapoptosis and neurogenesis in hippocampus and elucidate the underlying mechanism of single and combined acupoints on ameliorating spatial learning and memory deficits in a rat model of primary insomnia.
Methods: Primary insomnia was modeled by intraperitoneal injection of para-chlorophenylalanine (PCPA) once daily for 2 d. EA was applied at Shenmen (HT7), Baihui (GV20), Sanyinjiao (SP6), or Shenmen (HT7) + Baihui (GV20) + Sanyinjiao (SP6) (combined) for 30 min daily for 4 d.

From the perspective of academic history, the paper reviews systematically the background and evolution of the understanding of "Fengshi (GB 31) for treating wind disorders". In the ancient literature, there are no direct relevant statement for the indication of Fengshi (GB 31) associated with "wind", and the consensus on "Fengshi for treating wind disorders" has not been made yet. Under the influence of acupoint theory in recent era and the syndrome differentiation for acupuncture treatment in modern time, this statement becomes a conventional understanding and acceptable gradually.

As an indicator that measures the degree of implementation of intervention measures during the implementation process, fidelity could be used for monitoring and quality evaluation of the completion degree of intervention measures, and plays an important role in improving the degree of intervention implementation and clarifying the factors that affect intervention implementation. This article aims to introduce the connotation and significance, measurement, control, and current application status of fidelity, as well as the current application status of fidelity in acupuncture-moxibustion clinical research and its inspiration for future research. Meanwhile, based on the existing evaluation tool development methods of fidelity and the characteristics of acupuncture-moxibustion clinical research, a preliminary fidelity evaluation framework is proposed.

Background: The biophysical properties of the meridian system, an important concept of traditional Chinese medicine, include low impedance, resounding voice, and high acoustic conductance, all of which are helpful for elucidating the essence of meridians.
Objectives: To visualize the human pericardium meridian (PC) based on the resounding voice property of meridians.
Methods: Visualization of the PC was performed by injection of fluorescein sodium at the PC6 acupoint (Neiguan) on the PC.

Maternal separation (MS) is a type of early-life stress that has been linked to neuropsychiatric disorders, especially depression. Increasing evidence indicates that the adenosine triphosphate (ATP) level in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) is involved in the pathophysiology of depression. To investigate the potential relationship between ATP in PFC and antidepressant effects of electroacupuncture (EA) treatment, we assessed genes involved in ATP biosynthesis as well as the extracellular ATP levels in a rat model exposed to neonatal MS.

Background In mainland China, patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) have approximately an 40% prevalence of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV). This disease leads to recurrent retinal pigment epithelium detachment (PED), extensive subretinal or vitreous hemorrhages, and severe vision loss. China has introduced various treatment modalities in the past years and gained comprehensive experience in treating PCV.

Objective: To observe the effect of mustard oil application at "Liangmen" (ST21) on gastric ulcer (GU) and gastric motility and its association with the sympathetic nerve activity in rats with GU, so as to provide experimental basis for improvement of GU by acupoint application.
Methods: Thirty-nine male SD rats were randomly divided into control (=7), model, acupoint application (AA), medication (guanethidine, an adrenergic sympathetic antagonist) and AA+medication groups (=8 in each of the latter 4 groups). The GU model was made by applying acetic acid-immersed filter paper onto the gastric antrum.

Studies have demonstrated that a functional network of meningeal lymphatic vessels exists in the brain. However, it is unknown whether lymphatic vessels could also extend deep into the brain parenchyma and whether the vessels could be regulated by stressful life events. We used tissue clearing techniques, immunostaining, light-sheet whole-brain imaging, confocal imaging in thick brain sections and flow cytometry to demonstrate the existence of lymphatic vessels deep in the brain parenchyma.

The process of acupuncture internationalization includes two basic stages: pre-internationalization period and post-internationalization period. The former is mainly characterized by unidirectional export led by China, while other countries and regions are mainly learning and absorbing. The latter is manifested by the localization transformation and development of acupuncture in foreign countries, which brings severe challenges to traditional Chinese acupuncture.
