Primary biliary cirrhosis and psoriasis: a two-sample Mendelian randomization study.

Background: Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) and psoriasis are frequently observed to co-occur in clinical settings. However, the causal associations and underlying mechanisms between PBC and psoriasis remain poorly defined.

Methods: In this study, we conducted bidirectional MR analysis to explore the causal relationship between PBC and psoriasis using four MR methods: inverse-variance weighted, MR-Egger regression, weighted median, and weighted mode.

New interpretation of "Miu Ci".

Based on the record of Miu Ci theory from ('), and incorporating the relevant discussions of medical scholars from various dynasties, this article interprets and analyzes the Miu Ci technique, the points to be needled, and the diseases can be treated. The following innovative understandings are proposed： 1) The original meaning of "Miu" in Miu Ci is "to prick in a different way from the meridians (needle the major collaterals)", not "needle left and right interchangeably". Needle left and right interchangeably is not a necessary operation in Miu Ci.

Moxibustion ameliorates visceral hypersensitivity by regulating hypothalamus-spinal cord-colon axis in rats with irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea.

Objectives: To observe the effect of moxibustion intervention on the hypothalamus-spinal cord-colon axis of rats with irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) and explore the mechanism of moxibustion in improving visceral hypersensitivity in rats with IBS-D.

Methods: A total of 36 SD rats were randomly divided into normal, model, and moxibustion groups, with 12 rats in each group. The IBS-D model was established by maternal separation + acetic acid stimulation + chronic restraint.

In the past 20 years, the acupuncture-moxibustion discipline has made a great progress in clinical research, method construction, standard formulation, guideline promotion, basic theory and key scientific issue research. Internationally, the development of acupuncture and moxibustion has gradually begun to pay more attention to the basic issues of the discipline itself from focusing on clinical evidence. The National Institute of Health of USA pays close attention to the construction of acupoint knowledge base and database and to the transformation of peripheral nerve stimulation techniques, which brings forth opportunities and challenges for the development of acupuncture-moxibustion discipline.

Factors and Their Impact on Treatment Effect of Acupuncture in Different Outcomes: A Meta-Regression of Acupuncture Randomized Controlled Trials.

Background: The effects of acupuncture have varied in different randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and there are many factors that influence treatment effect of acupuncture in different outcomes, with conflicting results.

Objective: To identify factors and their impact on the treatment effect of acupuncture in different outcomes.

Methods: Acupuncture RCTs were searched from 7 databases including Medline (PubMed), Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, VIP Database, and China Biology Medicine disc between January 1st, 2015 and December 31st, 2019.

[Baimai Ointment relieves chronic pain induced by chronic compression of dorsal root ganglion in rats by regulating neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction and HIF-1 signaling pathway].

The Baimai Ointment with the effect of relaxing sinew and activating collaterals demonstrates a definite effect on Baimai disease with pain, spasm, stiffness and other symptoms, while the pharmacodynamic characteristics and mechanism of this agent remain unclear. In this study, a rat model of chronic compression of L4 dorsal root ganglion(CCD) was established by lumbar disc herniation, and the efficacy and mechanism of Baimai Ointment in the treatment of CCD were preliminarily explored by behavioral tests, side effect evaluation, network analysis, antagonist and molecular biology verification. The pharmacodynamic experiment indicated that Baimai Ointment significantly improved the pain thresholds(mechanical pain, thermal pain, and cold pain) and gait behavior of CCD model rats without causing tolerance or obvious toxic and side effects.

[Scoping review of acupuncture-moxibustion treatment for non-specific low back pain].

This study systematically searched and sorted out randomized controlled trial(RCT) of acupuncture-moxibustion treatment for non-specific low back pain by scoping review, so as to demonstrate the current state of the research evidence and provide a reference point for future clinical research and healthcare decision-making. Eight commonly used Chinese and English databases were searched, and the search time was from the establishment of the databases to July 7, 2023, so as to analyze the characteristics of the current status of the current research through visualization methods. A total of 50 studies were included, including 23 studies in Chinese and 27 studies in English.

The characteristics of acupoint indications vary according to the distribution of acupoints on the body, which is particularly prominent from the perspective of the differences between the acupoints on the trunk and those on the four limbs. The most of meridian-acupoint theories, especially the early theories are based on these differences and collected in (). Through the interpretation of the newly unearthed medical bamboo slips, it is found that the relevant explanation of (six -points [back- points and Yuanye, GB 22], distributed on the trunk) and (similar to the names of meridians, referring to those except six -points; distributed mostly below the elbows and knees of four limbs, especially on the pulsating sites of the wrists and ankles) also confirms the identification of the differences in both indications and theories between the acupoints located on the trunk and those on the four limbs.

Standardization studies of acupuncture prescriptions: a new approach to translational medicine in acupuncture.

This paper explores the relationship between the standardization studies of acupuncture prescriptions and translational medicine, elucidating the translational medical concepts in the standardization of acupuncture prescriptions. It emphasizes that the standardization of acupuncture prescriptions is a pivotal link in the transformation of foundational acupuncture research. Considering the current clinical status of acupuncture prescriptions, the paper proposes the elements for standardizing prescriptions to promote the translation of foundational acupuncture research into clinical practice.

Introduction to the Meta-analysis method of functional magnetic resonance imaging research and the exploration of its application in the field of acupuncture.

In recent years, the number of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) research in acupuncture grows increasingly. However, due to the differences in acupoint selection, acupuncture technique and sample size, the problems get more prominent in terms of the diverse results and the lack of common rules of acupuncture among researches. By taking the fMRI research for post-stroke motor dysfunction (PSMD) treated with acupuncture as the example, this paper introduces the fMRI Meta-analysis technology for integrating the relevant research results and extracting the common rules, namely image-based Meta-analysis (IBMA) and coordinate-based Meta-analysis (CBMA).

Acupuncture Versus Oral Medications for Acute/Subacute Non-Specific Low Back Pain: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Purpose Of Review: Pharmacologic intervention do not always achieve benefits in the treatment of acute/subacute non-specific low back pain (NSLBP). We assessed efficacy and safety of acupuncture for acute/subacute NSLBP as alternative treatment.

Recent Findings: We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Epistemonikos, CNKI, Wan Fang Database, VIP database, CBMLD, CSTJ, clinical trials, EUCTR, World WHO ICTRP, and ChiCTR for randomized controlled trials, cross-over studies, and cohort studies of NSLBP treated by acupuncture versus oral medication from inception to 23th April 2022.

Peripheral neural mechanism of visceral pain and acupoint sensitization in 2, 4, 6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid-induced colitis model mice.

Objectives: To explore the neural mechanism of visceral pain and related somatic (acupoints) sensitization by using calcium imaging of dorsal root ganglia (DRG) neurons.

Methods: Eight BALB/c mice were randomly divided into control and model groups, with 4 mice in each group. The colitis model was induced by colorectal perfusion of 2, 4, 6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS) once daily for 7 days.

Targeting BDNF with acupuncture: A novel integrated strategy for diabetes and depression comorbidity.

Diabetes and depression are common comorbid conditions that impose a substantial health burden. Prevalence of and factors associated with symptoms consistent with a diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome among resident physicians in standardised training in China: a cross-sectional study.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the incidence of and factors associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) among resident physicians in standardised training at eight traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) hospitals in China.

Design: A cross-sectional survey was administered to resident physicians in their first to third years of standardised training at eight TCM hospitals.

Taking the recommendations development of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS) standard as an example, this study analyzed the consensus expert composition, specific consensus process, and results in the development of the guideline's recommendations. It systematically examined the advantages of using the modified Delphi method in the formation of recommendations for acupuncture and moxibustion clinical practice guideline, with the aim of providing reference for the development of acupuncture and moxibustion guidelines in the same field.

Application of clinical value assessment of treatment protocols in guideline development: taking the WFAS as an example.

To enhance the clinical applicability of guidelines and provide more effective guidance for clinical practice, a clinical value assessment was conducted during the development of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS) , which involved the evaluation of 59 acupuncture and moxibustion treatment protocols from randomized controlled trials (RCTs). This article introduced the methodology, content and results of the clinical value assessment of RCT-based acupuncture and moxibustion treatment protocols, which involved the integration of historical and contemporary medical evidence and expert consensus. It served as a methodological reference for the future development of acupuncture and moxibustion clinical practice guidelines.

Construction of a clinical prediction model for the impact of acupuncture on pregnancy outcomes in poor ovarian response (POR) patients based on a patient registry research platform.

Objectives: To construct a clinical prediction model for the impact of acupuncture on pregnancy outcomes in poor ovarian response (POR) patients, providing insights and methods for predicting pregnancy outcomes in POR patients undergoing acupuncture treatment.

Methods: Clinical data of 268 POR patients (2 cases were eliminated) primarily treated with "thirteen needle acupuncture for (regulating menstruation and promoting pregnancy)" was collected from the international patient registry platform of acupuncture moxibustion (IPRPAM) from September 19, 2017 to April 30, 2023, involving 24 clinical centers including Acupuncture-Moxibustion Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. LASSO and univariate Cox regression were used to screen factors influencing pregnancy outcomes, and a multivariate Cox regression model was established based on the screening results.

Application of in vivo brain imaging technology in the basic research of acupuncture-moxibustion for encephalopathy.

Acupuncture-moxibustion is remarkably effective on encephalopathy, but its mechanism is unclear. With the continuous development of imaging technology, the in vivo brain imaging technology has been used increasingly in life science research and it also becomes a more effective tool for the basic research of acupuncture-moxibustion in treatment of encephalopathy. Methods: We conducted an extensive search in databases including China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform (CDDB), China Science and Technology Journal Database (CSTJ), PubMed and Web of Science databases for literature published between January 2013 and June 2023, focusing on acupuncture prescriptions with SP6 as the main acupoint for various diseases. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied for literature screening.

Region-specific response of central microglial cells to sciatic nerve demyelination through sensory and motor pathways.

Peripheral nerve injury can cause changes in microglial cells on the spinal dorsal and ventral horns. This region-specific response implies that central microglial cells could be activated through both sensory and motor pathways. In order to further determine how peripheral nerve injury activates central microglial cells through neural pathways, the sciatic nerve was selected as the target for neural tract tracing and demyelination.

Methods: We retrieved and processed gene expression datasets for PCOS from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Differential expression analysis of genes (DEGs) within the training set was performed using the "limma" R package.

Effects of traditional Chinese mind-body exercises for patients with chronic fatigue syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a global public health concern. We performed this systematic review of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate the effects and safety of traditional Chinese mind-body exercises (TCME) for patients with CFS.

Methods: We comprehensively searched MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library, CNKI, VIP databases, and Wanfang Data from inception to October 2022 for eligible RCTs of TCME for CFS management.

Use of Evidence-Based Research Approach in RCTs of Acupuncture-Related Therapies for Primary Dysmenorrhea: A Meta-Research.

Objective: To assess the use of evidence-based research (EBR) approach in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of acupuncture-related therapies for primary dysmenorrhea (PD).

Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, Chinese Biomedical Database, and China Science and Technology Journal Database were searched from January 2013 to December 2022 for RCTs of acupuncture on PD. The full text and references of each RCT were read to assess whether systematic reviews (SRs) or other types of studies with similar research questions and end-users' perspectives were cited to justify and design the trial.

Acupuncture for in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer: an overview of systematic reviews.

Objectives: To evaluate the report quality, methodological quality and evidence quality of the systematic reviews and meta-analyses (SRs/MAs) of acupuncture for in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET).

Methods: The SRs/MAs of acupuncture for IVF-ET were searched electronically from databases of CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, SinoMed, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, from inception of each database to September 27th, 2022. Two reviewers independently screened the literature and extracted the data.

Electroacupuncture Exerts Analgesic Effects by Restoring Hyperactivity via Cannabinoid Type 1 Receptors in the Anterior Cingulate Cortex in Chronic Inflammatory Pain.

As one of the commonly used therapies for pain-related diseases in clinical practice, electroacupuncture (EA) has been proven to be effective. In chronic pain, neurons in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) have been reported to be hyperactive, while the mechanism by which cannabinoid type 1 receptors (CB1Rs) in the ACC are involved in EA-mediated analgesic mechanisms remains to be elucidated. In this study, we investigated the potential central mechanism of EA analgesia.
