Institute of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing 100700, China.

Identifying the study subject, "to be in meridian or collateral", is the first step of meridian-collateral differentiation. Combined with the ancient literature and clinical practice of acupuncture and moxibustion, the methods of identifying "to be in meridian or collateral" and its values are elaborated. Through analyzing the onset location of symptoms and the body layers of lesions, as well as the palpation and observation in meridian-collateral detection, "to be meridian" or "to be collateral" is identified in disease diagnosis.

Currently, clinical practice and scientific research mostly revolve around a single disease or system, but the single disease-oriented diagnostic and therapeutic paradigm needs to be revised. This review describes how transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS), a novel non-invasive neuromodulation approach, connects the central and peripheral systems of the body. Through stimulation of the widely distributed vagus nerve from the head to the abdominal cavity, this therapy can improve and treat central system disorders, peripheral system disorders, and central-peripheral comorbidities caused by autonomic dysfunction.

  • Interstitial fluid is useful for diagnosing diseases and detecting tumor markers, but collecting it from deep tissues is difficult.
  • This study compared three methods—push-pull perfusion, multi-filament nylon thread implantation, and tissue centrifugation—for collecting interstitial fluid from mini-pigs' subcutaneous tissue.
  • Results showed that while the overall ion composition was similar across methods, there were minor differences in ion detection rates and concentrations, suggesting the choice of method should depend on specific ions or collection locations.

Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Dongzhimen Hospital, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Beijing 100700, China. Electronic address:

Acupuncture is one of the most effective complementary therapies for allergic rhinitis (AR) and has been recommended by several clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for AR. However, these CPGs mentioned acupuncture without making recommendations for clinical implementation and therapeutic protocols, therefore limiting the applicability of acupuncture therapies for AR. Hence, for the benefit of acupuncture practitioners around the world, the World Federation of Acupuncture-moxibustion Societies have initiated a project to develop the CPG for the use of acupuncture and moxibustion to treat AR.
