Neuroactive steroids including allopregnanolone are implicated in the pathophysiology of peripartum depressive symptoms (PDS). We performed a systematic review searching PubMed/Embase/PsychInfo/Cinhail through 08/2023 (updated in 07/2024), and conducted a random-effects meta-analysis of studies comparing allopregnanolone blood concentrations in women with versus without PDS at various timepoints during the 2 and 3 trimester and the postpartum period, calculating standardized mean differences (SMDs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Meta-regression and subgroup analyses included age, diagnoses of affective disorders before pregnancy, antidepressant treatment, analytical methods, and sample type.

Little is known about the correlation between subjective perception and objective measures of sleep quality in particular in the oldest-old. The aim of this study was to perform longitudinal home sleep monitoring in this age group, and to correlate results with self-reported sleep quality. This is a prospective longitudinal home sleep-monitoring study in 12 oldest-old persons (age 83-100 years, mean 93 years, 10 females) without serious sleep disorders over 1 month using a contactless piezoelectric bed sensor (EMFIT QS).

Objective: To help healthcare professionals (HCP) act with more confidence when communicating about approaching death, we sought to develop a communication model for HCP to facilitate conversations with dying patients and family caregivers (FC) in nonemergency situations.
Methods: We used a four-phase integrative approach: (1) creation of a preliminary model based on a systematic literature review and expert knowledge, (2) review of the model draft by international palliative care experts, (3) review by key stakeholders, and (4) final appraisal by communication experts.
Results: After the clinical recognition of dying, the communication model provides a structure and practical communication aids for navigating the conversation based on three phases.

Psychological distress is an important and frequent health problem. The Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) allows screening for psychological distress in clinical, general and research populations. We aimed to provide normative data for the BSI and the BSI-18 for the Swiss general population: We 1) present psychometric properties, 2) develop a Swiss T-standardization and validate it using a clinical sample, 3) describe psychological distress in the Swiss general population and the clinical sample, and 4) compare the means and T-standardized scores of the Swiss general population to different German norm populations.

: Acute heart failure (AHF) is associated with high morbidity and mortality, and the prognosis is particularly poor in older patients. Although the application of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) has shown a positive impact on prognosis, the effects are less clear in older age groups. The aim of this study was to analyze real-world data regarding GDMT and outcomes in older HF patients.

Unlabelled: This multicentre, prospective cohort study measured the effect of romosozumab for 12 months on bone mineral density, taking into account prior therapies. Prior antiresorptive therapy blunted the BMD response to romosozumab, and the duration was correlated with BMD changes at both the lumbar spine and total hip.
Introduction: In Switzerland, romosozumab is administered to high-risk osteoporosis patients.

Objective: There is preliminary evidence that children after traumatic brain injury (TBI) have accelerated long-term forgetting (ALF), i.e., an adequate learning and memory performance in standardized memory tests, but an excessive rate of forgetting over delays of days or weeks.

Introduction: In clinical neuropsychology, the phenomenon of accelerated long-term forgetting (ALF) has advanced to be a marker for subtle but clinically relevant memory problems associated with a range of neurological conditions. The normal developmental trajectory of long-term memory, in this case, memory recall after 1 week, and the influence of cognitive variables such as intelligence have not extensively been described, which is a drawback for the use of accelerated long-term forgetting measures in pediatric neuropsychology.
Methods: In this clinical observation study, we analyzed the normal developmental trajectory of verbal memory recall after 1 week in healthy children and adolescents.

Fracture prediction is essential in managing patients with osteoporosis and is an integral component of many fracture prevention guidelines. We aimed to identify the most relevant clinical fracture risk factors in contemporary populations by training and validating short- and long-term fracture risk prediction models in 2 cohorts. We used traditional and machine learning survival models to predict risks of vertebral, hip, and any fractures on the basis of clinical risk factors, T-scores, and treatment history among participants in a nationwide Swiss Osteoporosis Registry (N = 5944 postmenopausal women, median follow-up of 4.

Objective: Following mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), children show reduced processing speed (PS). Evidence suggests that slowed PS after TBI is associated with working memory deficits. Our aim was to investigate several forms of PS and to examine its impact on working and episodic memory performance in children after mTBI.

Introduction: The differences in vascular risk factors' and stroke burden across Europe are notable, however there is limited understanding of the influence of socioeconomic environment on the quality of secondary prevention and outcome after acute ischemic stroke.
Patients And Methods: In this observational multicenter cohort study, we analyzed baseline characteristics, reperfusion treatment, outcome and secondary prevention in patients with acute ischemic stroke from three tertiary-care teaching hospitals with similar service population size in different socioeconomic environments: Bern/CH/ = 293 (high-income), Gdansk/PL/ = 140 (high-income), and Lutsk/UA/ = 188 (lower-middle-income).
Results: We analyzed 621 patients (43.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the trajectory of parent-rated post-concussive symptoms (PCS), attentional performance and participation within 6 months in children after mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI).
Methods: For this prospective longitudinal study, we included data on 64 children after mTBI and 57 healthy control children (age 8-16 years). Parents rated PCS using the Post-Concussion Symptom Inventory (PCSI) immediately (T0), 1 week (T1), and 3-6 months after injury (T2).

Objectives: We sought to understand the social construction of aging in a clinic-based population, with and without HIV, to address gaps in care for older individuals living with HIV in Zambia.
Methods: Our exploratory qualitative study included 36 in-depth interviews with clinic clients and four focus group discussions with 36 professional and lay healthcare workers providing services to the clients. We identified themes based on social construction theory.

Context: Coaches play an important role in promoting mental health in elite sports. However, they themselves are exposed to risks affecting their mental health, and their fears and worries are often overlooked. Moreover, it remains unclear how coaches' mental health affects their athletes' mental health.

Objectives: Although caring for dying patients and their family caregivers (FC) is integral to patient care, training in communication about approaching death is almost inexistent in medical and nursing curricula. Consequently, many health professionals have insufficient knowledge about conducting these conversations. In order to gain a broader insight into essential aspects of this communication from different perspectives, we conducted focus groups with key stakeholders.
