Background: Aggressive digital papillary adenocarcinoma (ADPA) is a rare skin adnexal tumor with a predilection for the hand. The presentation, treatment, and outcomes of ADPA remain poorly defined due to the scarcity of reports and low-level evidence of published findings.

Methods: We performed a meta-analysis following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines with the intent to provide hand surgeons a better understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

Feasibility of Obtaining Patient-Reported Outcome Measures in a High-Volume Multidisciplinary Surgical Limb Salvage Center.

Background: Completion of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) is labor-intensive but paramount in improving patient-centered care, allowing for advancement of techniques and scrutinization of outcomes. We report the feasibility of PROM collection and reporting for patients seen in a high-volume, multidisciplinary, tertiary limb salvage center to determine pain and functionality outcomes.

Methods: The center received grant funding resources for large-scale PROM collection.

Selective Peripheral Denervation and Selective Nerve Injury for the Treatment of Cervical Dystonia Through a Periauricular Incision.

Traditional selective peripheral denervation methods for treating cervical dystonia (CD) involve complete transection of the nerves to muscles through a posterior incision proximally after they exit the spinal cord. This report presents a case where anterior muscles involved in CD cannot be easily addressed through the traditional posterior approach. Furthermore, complete denervation of certain muscles, such as the trapezius, can lead to functional limitations.

Enhanced recovery after surgery pathways for deep inferior epigastric perforator flap breast reconstruction: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) surgery is one of the most difficult breast reconstruction techniques available, both in terms of operating complexity and patient recovery. Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathways were recently introduced in numerous subspecialties to reduce recovery time, patient pain, and cost by providing multimodal perioperative care. Plastic surgery has yet to widely integrate ERAS with DIEP reconstruction, mostly due to insufficient data on patient outcomes with this combined approach.

Strategies to Reduce Congestion in the Resident Match: What Can Plastic Surgery Learn from Other Specialties?

Evaluation of Prepectoral Breast Tissue Expander Reconstruction Intraoperative Fill: Air or Saline?

Summary: Staged implant-based breast reconstruction with immediate tissue expanders (TEs) is the most common method of breast reconstruction after mastectomy. TEs traditionally are filled with saline for expansion. Some surgeons have advocated initial intraoperative fill of the TE with air to avoid excess pressure on ischemic mastectomy skin flaps.

Bony Cubital Tunnel Syndrome: A Case Report of Heterotopic Ossification Causing Circumferential Ulnar Nerve Encasement at the Elbow and Review of Current Management.

Background: Heterotopic ossification (HO) is a rare but known complication of brain and nerve trauma, orthopedic trauma, and burns. Nerve compression due to HO is extremely rare; "bony cubital tunnel syndrome," or compression of the ulnar nerve at the elbow due to HO, is an unusual presentation that requires special considerations for treatment.

Case Presentation: We present a 50-year-old man who presented to our hospital after vehicular polytrauma with associated car fire and prolonged extrication.

Atasoy Flap Fingertip Reconstruction: Long-term Patient-reported Outcomes in Male Laborers.

Unlabelled: Atasoy flaps (AFs) are commonly used to reconstruct digits after fingertip injuries. However, recent literature reports that some surgeons prefer skeletal shortening and closure, presumably because the procedure can be performed in the emergency department without the risk of flap-associated complications. The purpose of the present outcome study is to evaluate patient-reported, long-term satisfaction of AF reconstructions for fingertip injuries.

Outcomes Analysis of Textured Versus Smooth Tissue Expanders in Breast Reconstruction.

Introduction: Because of concerns related to the correlation of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) and textured implants, the use of smooth devices in breast reconstruction has been increasing. Currently, there is a paucity of literature evaluating the safety of smooth tissue expanders (STEs), which are now being used more frequently in first-stage breast reconstruction. This study sought to compare the safety and outcomes associated with STEs compared with textured tissue expanders in prosthesis-based breast reconstruction.

Radiographic Landmarks for Ideal Port Placement in Wrist Arthroscopy.

 The placement of wrist arthroscopy portals is traditionally performed using distances from anatomic landmarks. We sought to evaluate the safety of traditional portal placement and determine if radiographic landmarks could provide an additional method of identifying tendon intervals.  Six cadaveric specimens were used to evaluate the accuracy of portal placement based on anatomic and radiographic landmarks.

Autologous Muscle-Derived Nerve Wrap for Prevention of Symptomatic Microneuromas in Primary Nerve Repair.

Painful microneuromas may form at the site of an appropriately performed primary microsurgical nerve repair leading to a persistent Tinel's sign and hypersensitivity in that location. Here, we describe an autologous option using a free muscle-derived nerve wrap with the intent to capture axonal escape at the site of primary nerve coaptation.

Background: Breast reconstruction is associated with improved quality of life after mastectomy. Options for breast reconstruction include autologous and implant-based methods. Although autologous reconstruction is more technically challenging and requires longer operative time, it is thought of as the gold standard.

Safety Comparison of Abdominoplasty and Brazilian Butt Lift: What the Literature Tells Us.

Background: Although abdominoplasty is a mainstay of the plastic surgeon, the safety of the Brazilian butt lift (BBL) has been questioned, effectively being prohibited in some countries. The central rationale for the safety concern over the BBL stems from a publication stating a mortality rate of one in 3000. The question remains: What is the real safety of these procedures?

Methods: Focusing on mortality, literature searches were performed for BBL and for abdominoplasty.

Phalangeal and Metacarpal Fractures of the Hand: Preventing Stiffness.

Fractures of the phalangeal or metacarpal bones of the hand are common. Many of these fractures are treated without surgery. However, both conservative and operative management of fractures of the hand can result in stiffness.

Scaphoid Dislocation Reconstruction with Scapholunotriquetral Ligament Tenodesis.

Traumatic injuries leading to complex scaphoid dislocations are uncommon. We present a successful reconstructive case after a complex intercarpal instability injury using scapholunotriquetral tenodesis without the need for Kirschner wire fixation and early controlled range of motion therapy. At 3 months, the patient had a pain-free wrist with a 100-degree arc of motion and returned to work with full functionality.
