Outlier detection is critical in statistical analysis and predictive modelling, but it is often overlooked in research, leading to potentially inaccurate conclusions. This study aimed to (1) assess the prevalence of outlier detection strategies in sport science publications, (2) examine the effect of outliers on statistical inference using general linear mixed-effects models with longitudinal data, and (3) evaluate the impact of outliers on regression predictive models using the same dataset. A systematic literature search of 4,622 articles published in 2023 in Q1 journals in "sport science" category found that only 9.

Objective: Dolichoectatic vertebrobasilar aneurysms (DVBAs) are expansions of arterial tissue leading to aneurysmal formations without an obvious neck. Their natural history is poorly understood; usually patients are admitted with thromboembolic complications and/or neurological symptoms from the mass effect. There have not been international collective data, and correct timing for highly risky treatments has been under discussion.

Background: Ceramide and phosphatidylcholine lipids-based risk score (CERT2) has shown a strong prognostic value in predicting cardiovascular (CV) events in patients with ischemic heart disease. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of CERT2 risk score in patients with heart failure (HF).
Methods: The current study combines data for 4234 subjects from the COMMANDER-HF trial and 1227 subjects from the GISSI-HF trial, which enrolled patients with a history of HF.

Introduction: The growing evidence of increased life expectancy in the future reveals the high relevance of frailty in patients with chronic-degenerative diseases; identification and management of symptoms may improve significantly their quality of life. The objective of our study was to assess the symptom burden in patients with advanced chronic or prolonged infectious diseases.
Materials And Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed enrolling 88 patients, referred to palliative care consultation for chronic pain, and evaluated using the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System to define Total Symptom Distress Score (TSDS) and high symptom burden (HSB) when more than six symptoms along with Numerical Rating Scale ≥4 were present.

Background: Women who have a mastectomy for breast cancer treatment or risk reduction may be offered different options for breast reconstruction, including use of implants or the woman's own tissue (autologous tissue flaps). The choice of technique depends on factors such as the woman's preferences, breast characteristics, preoperative imaging, comorbidities, smoking habits, prior chest or breast irradiation, and planned adjuvant therapies.
Objectives: To assess the effects of implants versus autologous tissue flaps for postmastectomy breast reconstruction on women's quality of life, satisfaction, and short- and long-term surgical complications.

Background: Physical activity (PA) reduces the risk of developing breast cancer (BC) and mortality rate in BC patients starting PA after diagnosis. Immunomodulation is considered responsible for these effects. However, limited data exist on the immunomodulation induced by moderate PA (mPA) during neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT).

In the past decade, significant European calls for research proposals have supported translational collaborative research on non-communicable and infectious diseases within the biomedical life sciences by bringing together interdisciplinary and multinational consortia. This research has advanced our understanding of disease pathophysiology, marking considerable scientific progress. Yet, it is crucial to retrospectively evaluate these efforts' societal impact.

Occurrence of resistance to olaparib, a poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor (PARPi) approved in ovarian carcinoma, has already been shown in clinical settings. Identifying combination treatments to sensitize tumor cells and/or overcome resistance to olaparib is critical. Polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1), a master regulator of mitosis, is also involved in the DNA damage response promoting homologous recombination (HR)-mediated DNA repair and in the recovery from the G2/M checkpoint.

The Angelman Syndrome Registry (RISA) was developed as a retrospective study with the following objectives: to evaluate the clinical history of individuals with Angelman Syndrome (AS) in Italy and compare it with the existing literature; to investigate the feasibility of gathering data by directly involving participants in the data collection process; and to explore the relationship between different symptoms and genotypes. Established in 2018, RISA enrolled a total of 82 participants, with 62 (75.6%) providing complete data.
